We are relatively new members to the Forum and appreciate the wealth of information provided by the members.

DS applied for the Marine Option NROTC Scholarship. Until today, the portal indicated at Marine District pending a decision. Today, the information was changed

The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.
Missing Items
All required items have been processed.
Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application.

I understand the process as follows:
District will hold Early (Nov) Board and sends results to MCRC by 1 Dec. Once MCRC approves results, they are forwarded to NSTC for school placement.

Is it a good sign the application is now at NSTC or routine process?

I would perhaps take this as a good sign but always keep your fingers crossed. My portal still states "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection." may i ask which area you guys are from?

Historically, the portal is notoriously unreliable. It certainly isn't "real time." At this time of year, changes on the portal signal that somewhere behind the scenes changes are being uploaded, processed, etc. Sometimes, it affects all applicants and other times it involves only those who are being processed. There is probably no way of knowing.

That said, I would take it as a good sign that things are happening and why not assume your DS is part of it? Good luck!

By the way, over the last few years it was around mid-December that the first notifications went out via phone call, email or other contact with the regional Officer Selection Officer or his staff. The portal updates followed by several weeks and would include the selected school.

Thanks, USMCGrunt. We'll keep waiting with our fingers crossed.

Mcchris72: we are in Florida, which is the 6th Marine Corps District.

Agree with USMCGrunt. Do not go by the portal. My son was selected in the early board last year and the CO of the RS called him the week before Christmas. The Marines like to notify personally.

My son received a phone call today that he received the 4 year scholarship NROTC Marine Option to his first choice school! We are beyond excited! Waiting on acceptance to the school now - that should be coming out in the next week or 2. So things are happening and hoping your son gets a phone call soon as well.

Congratulations, our OSO just called and my son was also placed at his first choice school.

Congratulations. Now comes the hard part. Be physically and mentally prepared when you get there.

Has anyone heard anything yet from NY. It's just days before Christmas and were surprised that we are still waiting for news. We thought for sure we would have heard something by now. The wait is just terrible and I would love if my son new one way or another. Hoping for some good news of course.

Mom: Your DS could try contacting his Officer Selection Officer for news. More than likely if he hasn't heard that he received a scholarship then he will need to wait for the next board's results. No news is better than negative news - it means he is still in the hunt. Hang in there. I know it is hard for both of you.

Thank you so much for your response. The support truly means a lot. My son has asked if I thought he should call and I wasn't sure how to respond. He emailed last week and received no response. I told him to wait but he decided he would call tomorrow anyway. At this point what could it hurt. The decisions have already been made. Thank you again.

Mom: Waiting is definitely the hardest part. I agree with USMCgrunt. Contact the OSO or assigned recruiter for an update. Hopefully, you'll get good news, but remember there is another Selection Board in February.

According to the process, Early Board non-selects are briefed for the Regular Board.

the XO of the recruiting region emailed my son to tell him he was not selected and will be reviewed again by the next board.

I'm sure you and your DS know this, but just be aware it might be difficult to reach anyone until after the New Year. At least most bases I know have essentially shut down for the holidays. Don't know about other facilities and I imagine everywhere has a skeleton staff on duty. Heck even my Army enlistee nephew was sent home for two weeks from the middle of boot camp! Never thought I'd see that happen.

No, actually we did not know this. Thank you for this info. That explains why they are not responding. It's understandable. However, given that they originally said all would be notified by end of November at the parent briefing I'm just surprised that we are at the end of December and still nothing. An email went out early December letting everyone know that the board has met and decisions will be coming soon but now were at the end of December. Maybe they want to hold off on delivering bad news till after the holidays.

Interesting to hear that about your nephew, I didn't think that would be possible smack in the middle of boot camp. I'm sure that was a nice surprise for all!

Thank you for that information! I'm glad to hear that he will be briefed again. I hope they will advise him on how he can improve his application if he is rolled into February. My son called and left a message. Hopefully he'll hear soon.

@MomOfTwoByz - They actually won't deliver bad news at this time of year. They don't deliver bad news until after the last board. In the meantime if you don't hear anything then the applicant has been reboarded for the next board. It can be a long wait. We didn't hear anything until April one way or the other.
