Hello.

I am currently undergoing the DODMERB guantlet. Unfortunately my immunotherapy was completed September 2008 and though I would join my unit September 2009, I'm told that it is 12 months before the DODMERB exam, not scholarship application =(. I was wondering if i join my unit as a college program midshipman with no scholarship, I could be re-examined for the 12 month limit when i apply for a 3 or 2 year scholarship in subsequent years.

Sincerely,

Midshipman Hopeful

I've wanted this since I visited the USS Midway in grade-school...this is a bummer =/

You are correct that the 12 months is from when DoDMERB reviewed your physical examination, and not class start dates.

On the positive side, the waiver authority also knows when you will be starting classes, and will review your file with that in mind.

I hope this helps!!

p.s. I must be getting old:

I was stationed on the USS Midway (CV-41), and it wasnt a museum then!!!

My daughter also was on AIT and was DQ'd by DoDMERB. We took her to see her allergist (also the Chief of Allergy at Madigan Army Med Center). She wrote a nice letter regarding the stoppage of the shots in September, and that she has ceased all meds. She also wrote that she has completed her series of shots and is showing no signs of allergies (dog, cat, grasses and weeds).

The USMMA's authority (BUMED US NAVY) and the USCGA both gaver her a waiver.

Good luck.. and I suggest you get in contact with Mr Larry Mullen (his contact info can be found in his posts), he definately helped us KNOW what documentation to get!!!

UWNROTCorBust I think you sent me an email. I'm traveling and will reply to you by 6 PM Sat or earlier:thumb:

Dear Collins,
Did DoDMERB grant the waiver or BUMED/USCGA?
TIA and Good Luck,
Salute

DoDMERB doe NOT grant waivers. DoDMERB renders the initial decision of MEETS or does NOT meet medical standards. The Academy or ROTC programs involved are the medical waiver authoities. Send me an email and I can give you all the information you need. Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil:thumb:

Bumed did grant the waiver for the USMMA on 2/10 and the Chief MEdical Officer at the CGA Granted the waiver for CGA on 2/23

:biggrin::biggrin:

Thanks to Mr Mullen and DoDmerb ............. :thumb:

Again, each Service Academy and ROTC program, serve as the waiver authority for that program. The independently review an applicant's record and either grant, deny, or request additional test(s), and/ or consult(s), and/or information from the applicant they THEY feel they need to render a waiver decision.:thumb:

Mr. Mullen and J Collins,
Thanks for the help.
GLTA,
Salute
