I know this is a very common question, but I am very worried about my test scores. Going in my favor I have really good CFA scores and good extracurriculars I'm pretty sure. I'm in the top 5% of my class and have decent grades 4.0+. I have received 3 nominations to the Naval Academy but I only have ACT scores of 28 math and 27 English. Any words of wisdom ?
 
No one here that posts, is on the Admissions staff. So, to tell you that, "No, you don't have a prayer or Yes, you have a good shot," is just wrong. Sure you may have low test scores but that is a factor that goes into WCS. I don't know if you took last ACT/SAT or not. Just let the chips fall where they may

You have several options, should you not be offered an appointment. Re-apply, hope that you may be offered a Foundations Scholarship or NAPS. This is why you read from so many people, to have multiple back up plans...

Half of the class had SAT scores in the range of 1210 to 1360 (combined math and verbal)
Converted to ACT the composite would be 27 to 31.
You already know your strengths and weaknesses. And yes you have a shot.
Also, having 3 nominations is better than zero.

The wait is brutal and for many will continue through the March.
Keep your head up and get those plan B and C in place.

P.S. Some college application deadlines are today and through the weekend. Make sure you don't miss those.
DS is committed to attending USNA, I just hope they agree. His desire has negatively impacted his motivation to get his other college applications completed. He completed two applications yesterday that were due today, and he has 2 more to complete before Monday.
 
Go take the SATs or ACTs again ASAP. Try to get them up. Some do better on ACTs, others do better on SATs. Take the practice tests, read the books on how to do better.

Seems like all the kids committed to going SA have the same issue getting those plan B apps in!!
 
The much needed MOC nominations for me are the killer. Getting apps done for all of my back plans and NROTC scholarship package was "a walk in the park" compared to the SA package and all of the work involved. All of apps were done by Oct 15 for which Im glad to have done. Now I just enjoy rest of my HS year and this roller coaster ride while waiting for some type of envelope from USNA. For a lot of us, the backup plans should be falling into place and planning for HS senior week. For some, after HS graduation, they dont have a lot of time off before I-Day, should I get an appointment one month.

I would recommend that all start a running program of some sorts. A NORMAL Annapolis summer is one that, is, very humid (sucks) and causes a lot plebes problems adjusting to. Compared to the classes of old, at least "Mother B" now has some air conditioning. The hotter it is, the worse the ac works.
 
Being triple nominated is definitely not a bad sign... You are viewed as a very qualified constituent in the eyes of your congressmen. As for the CFA, I was told at summer seminar that it is basically pass or fail and scores aren't necessarily compared between candidates once you have met the mystery minimum standards. I may have misinterpreted that though so don't take my word for it. It doesn't hurt to keep improving your board scores but don't let it stress you out too much. Candidates have been offered appointments with ACT scores like yours. Being in the top 5% of your class will be extremely helpful, especially if you have a rigorous schedule with difficult classes. Don't count yourself out yet. Best of luck!
 
I'm going to go back to what I already said. Put yourself in the shoes of the person making the decision. If he or she sees you trying to bring up your ACT scores it may help. I'd be spending your break time doing what I said above. Take the practice tests, cram and see if you can bring those score up a few points.

No doubt in my mind you can do it, just get determined, set your mind to it and kick some butt. Time is running short but you still have some time.

I'm pretty sure it's too late to take the ACT/SAT again for this year.

To the OP - it's out of your hands at this point. Your scores are in the range of midshipman. They look at the whole candidate, so it could be with everything else on your resume you might be offered an appointment. Just know that you've put your best package forward, continue with your backup plans and enjoy your senior year.
 
Funny, our plan B was for him to get into an ROTC program. They rejected him and the Coast Guard Academy accepted him. We thought that was odd....

Yes I am set to go here as well and I've only completed one other college application. Filing out SA applications has kind of made me loathe other applications, haha. Since I'm already done with this I'm just tired of the whole application process.

You might be right, but it'd only take a second to check. There is a new thread over on USAFA where a candidate is getting ready to take them again. So it appears it's not too late for AF. It'd be tight but it may be possible.

Bottom line is how bad does the OP want it? If he really wants it bad enough I bet he can find a way.

Well, this OP was specifically asking about Naval Academy and ACT. There is a deadline of 1/31 for taking the test, and the next ACT test date is in Feb.

It's too late for ACT (Feb) and for SAT it's January 23rd, the 11th hour to do all this.
 
My son took the ACT a bunch of times. They take the best scores in each category. Of course it cost me $50.00 each time he took it.

My son applied to NROTC and hasn't heard anything but did get accepted to Coast Guard. Still holding out for Navy
 
bgeary, first off, relax. I was constantly getting myself spun up about getting accepted to USNA, especially since I was a horrible test taker. I took 7 SAT's and 6 ACT's. If I remember correctly, my best ACT score overall was a 26 with a 30 for English and 24 for Math. I didn't receive a primary nomination from any of the 3 congressmen I interviewed (I was the number 2 guy twice and a competitive alternate for the third). Long story short, I was accepted straight into USNA the spring of my senior year of high school, graduated with the class of 2013, and am currently a winged NFO. I'm not sure how many times you've taken the test, but if you're really unsure, take it again once or twice. It won't hurt you. Hope this helps
