Should I be concerned if I haven't gotten one of these yet? I have my LOA, and I know I passed my CFA and my grades and scores are good. I am just concerned because I didn't know that was a thing until checking on here

Do you have all green check marks in your portal?
I thought all green lights just mean application is complete, as opposed to being 3q. My son got a notice on his portal saying he has met all the requirements. That certainly is a far cry from being appointed or getting an LOA. But he did get that correspondence. Just so OP knows, they should give you that message.

I thought a LOA is contingent upon being 3q. Isn't it?
Brovol you are correct. An LOA indicates a complete application, just waiting for nominations. Soccerboy, 3Q means DoDMERB, CFA, Academics. Did you mean DoDMERB rather than LOA?

I passed my DoDMERB, and I have all green checks. I asked people at USAFA, and they told me i passed my CFA, so I assume the same for WP. My grades are ok.

Give it time and yes your LOA just means a seat is saved but you still need to complete your file. You don't have hall pass quite yet.

It does, but soccer boy never indicated he was complete while looking for that 3Q letter. Some folks don't realize that they aren't complete until the others complete their pieces (counsellors/teachers/etc), hence, do they have checkmarks. Then there is the matter of when those all really became complete versus when the candidate submitted. If one of those pieces wasnt done until recently, I doubt the file was reviewed for qualification over the Christmas holiday. Often times the director won't allow anymore qualifications after the new year if the 7th semester transcript aren't received.

@goforspaatz Issuing LOAs are completely independent of 3Q, and often in the LOA require the candidate to complete their application at an accelerated pace.

With an LOA, and nominations being sent in, there is not much reasoning to send a 3Q letter when they will turn around and send an appointment soon. So as tug has said, be patient, but make sure you really are complete.

My son had all green lights, and a 3q letter on his portal, but then on Jan 1 his transcripts light turned red because they need 7th semester transcripts. Unfortunately, he is still in his 6th semester, and will be for another two weeks. I hope this doesn't take him back off the review table. I assume everyone has the same red light at this stage.

Yes- that just changed for us, too. Our semester doesn't end until end of January so son will have to request midyear transcripts after that.

My son has all green checks as well, and has for awhile now, but no 3Q letter -- should he contact his FF Rep? Also, his 1st semester doesn't end until Feb. 4 - is that going to be a problem with the end of January cut-off deadline for additional materials?

No LOA does not mean "a complete application." LOA means the admissions office has reserved an appointment for a candidate on a conditional basis. Candidates with LOA need to complete their application, determined fully qualified (most cases medical and physical), and a nomination to actually receive an appointment.

All green lights just means application is complete. 3q means the academy has found the candidate to be minimally qualified in all areas. Maybe calling the academy and asking wouldn't hurt. I'm not sure. Others more qualified to answer that question. The transcripts just need to be sent in when available. Not much you can do other than that. I think everyone probably had portal change from green to red on the transcripts. My son won't get his new grades for a couple weeks either.

Thank you for the clarification. I was mistaken.

Historically, 3Q letter has been a function when the candidates application has been completed and reviewed and how busy the Regional commander is. So for a candidate that completed his application in the fall, competitive, might get a 3Q letter. Whereas as candidates that completed their applications in November or later are still waiting to be reviewed and sometimes go directly to the appointment or rejection.

Right now is the busiest time for Regional commanders as they are trying to complete filling the current class of 2019 and have to deal with the follow class (i.e. SLE applications) and also start planning for their spring visits.

The LOA lists the outstanding conditions that must be met and depending on the candidate can be as 'little as' obtain nomination to pass cfa, pass DoDMERB, receive nomination, etc.

Our DD was provided an LOA in September with multiple 'conditions' including DoDMERB and the CFA and obtaining a nomination

MemberLG is correct per usual.

Actually that's not correct. I recieved my LOA without having completed my medical or having completed my application, or finished my CFA. My test scores and extra-curriculars is what led me to get one in August. To be fair, I am an underrepresented minority and a female, but my scores and extra-curriculars were really good.

Congratulations! I am in the same boat, I received my LOA in early September. If a lot of people are finishing their applications at the same time in your area, your RC might just being getting backed up. You should be receiving your 3Q letter in your portal any day!
