I have seen several threads about how USMMA's task to to build mariners, not Naval Officers.
Can anyone address the path to Coast Guard active duty?
My DS is particularly interested in Coast Guard or NOAA Corp after USMMA.

Like any other military branch, it is possible. I know a couple of my classmates went that route. . . spend any time at sea, though, and it is like joining the enemy. . . .

It's like an upgrade!

It can be done, sure. It manly rests on what the Coast Guard can take at the time. You'll go to a short indoc program to get you up to speed on CG-specific stuff but there are plenty of KP grads in the Coast Guard. Good folks!

When I was there, going USCG simply required applying for a USCG commission in your senior year. There was an interview process and lots of paper, but there was no special program of study throughout the four years. Ultimately an offer was either made or not, which you did not have to accept. Things may have changed, but my classmates' experience was that it was difficult to get into a USCG area other than Marine Safety. I would ask that question if your DS aspires to a specific area other than that. I'm sure the USCG rep on campus would gladly answer any questions that you have.

Spot on. We had a few really top notch guys get cutters, but again mostly marine inspections.

A good contact for active duty CG after USMMA is contact: LT Kate Woods, katharine.a.woods@uscg.mil

There is currently no CG liaison on campus.

The process is pretty easy, most folks go into Marine Safety because that's what they're recruited to do but plenty of people have gone into the cutter world, intelligence, etc.

USMMA graduates can apply through a special commissioning program to enter Coast Guard (active duty).

The program is called MARGRAD.

Here's a link with information.

The program has limited slots, but the only competition are the maritime graduates. It's hard to find information on this program around the internet, but it seems few apply to it.

This is how it was for the class of 2015. My DS commissioned USCG last year and is an Engineer on a cutter now.
