Recently I have been chosen as 1 of 5 student candidates out of my entire county for a position called Student Member of the Board. One of the events associated with the election process is Jan. 28 (the same day as my CVW) and is broadcasted live at 5 pm. This is one of two publicity opportunities that is available to all students, and as a candidate I should be present for the event and questions directed to me (last year a kid from my high school skipped this event and lost the election). Additionally, within the CVW e-mail there was a possibility to arrange for a late arrival- but this could possibly reflect poorly on me. I would like to know if it is a reasonable action to arrive late to my CVW or if I should reschedule for sometime this spring as I am a Junior and have the time to see the academy on another date.

Is it really a CVW? According to: http://www.usna.edu/CVW/ this CVWs are only given to candidates, which you can't be as a junior. Are you talking about something else?
Yes, I was invited by an admissions officer to attend. Although I can sympathize with your confusion as I too do not know much about the circumstances surrounding my invitation.

My daughter went to a CVW as a junior, she was invited fall of junior year. Not just possible, definitely happens!

To the OP, I would consider calling admissions and asking if you could be considered for another CVW. My daughter was in a similar situation, and although she did not call she declined the first CVW she was invited to, explaining why she couldn't attend. They invited her again a few months later.

I think your opportunity is good for your "resume", and even if you don't get another invite there are other ways to visit USNA.

Good luck to you!

My DS was offered a CVW when he was still a junior in high school just after filling out the application for Naval Academy Summer Seminar. He declined it and was still offered an appointment. The Naval Academy did offer for him to attend a CVW again and he did eventually attend a CVW after he was offered an appointment to help him make his ultimate acceptance decision. I would ask to reschedule your CVW. You have plenty of time and your other opportunity will be a very positive addition to your application.

Ditto this...DS same as a junior and then subsequent invite. He went to neither as other more pressing obligations kept him at home. Appointment received.
Sounds like you're doing good things in the county...suggest re-schedule to a time when you can enjoy the experience without stress and participate fully in the initiative you describe. Take the anxiety out of it.

+1 to Sydney. Reschedule the C VW. Since they invited you they are interested in you and will be happy to work with you.

If you are also interested in AROTC you should contact ClarksonArmy. He loves hockey players.

Ask for a different date- it won't be a big deal! My kiddo went as a junior, too.
