This past Friday my MOC called to say that I have an official appointment forthcoming(hoping the blizzard doesn't slow things down too much) . I was invited to, but unfortunately couldn't attend both of the September CVW days due to football games. I know there are spring CVW dates, but are these only for prospective juniors? Are there opportunities for an admitted student to experience Academy life. I was rejected from NASS last year and have only done a general tour/admissions brief.

Good questions. My son receive an appointment to West Point, and has done an overnight there. He is waiting to hear on USNA, and very much would like to do an overnight there too. He got a great perspective during the one he did at WP, and is torn between the two academies. Ideally, he would like to do one during his spring break, the first week of April.

Does USNA ever just schedule candidates or appointees for overnights on just a regular weekday (like WP does)?

I went to a CVW in late April last year as a junior, and met a few already admitted candidates who were making their decision. I don't know if that helps, but I think you can probably contact admissions and request one.

I talked to my admissions counselor this summer, and he said that they do not have an overnight program like WP does, but prefer to have large bulks of prospective candidates on campus at the same time, hence the CVW program. I wish they did a program like WP though.

I also went late last April and met already admitted candidates. Although most people are invited by admissions, you can definitely request a visit! If you talk to your BGO they can help you arrange it. There are set weekends each year, so you'll have a couple to choose from.

Contact admissions and ask. I've read threads here where others have done just that and admissions made it happen.

Definitely talk to your BGO and contact admissions. They do spring CVWs and most are juniors, but some are seniors also. You are going to learn something really quickly in the military... "What's the worst they can say?... No." Congrats on the appointment. And USNA was closed Friday and today. Who knows about Tuesday and they are expecting some more snow later in the week. Don't be surprised if BFEs might be a little slow this week.

My son had been offered CVW's before he was offered the appointment to USNA, but had not attended any of them. After he was offered his appointment, he asked admissions if he could attend a CVW in spring to help him make his final decision about accepting the appointment versus other schools. He was granted this and attended a CVW in February of his senior year of high school. The CVW was very helpful to allow him to make his decision to accept his appointment.
