USMAPS Appointment

Congrats!
I haven't been there myself but I've heard very good things about it. If you're adamant about going to USMA, this is your best bet without a direct admission.

I tried PMing you but it won't allow me.
Could you try PMing me?

Mike6- Ejt16 needs 5 posts before you can prvate message each other. one more and your good.

Has anyone else anything about USMAPS Appointments yet? Or when they will most likely come out?

OP said he's received his appointment there already. Based on the population of this forum I don't believe there will be a lot of prep school appointments (I could be wrong though).

Are you awaiting a prep school appointment?

@pj711 He means that based on the population he himself has observed, there does not seem to be many USMAPS applicants. Therefore, there will not be a lot of prep school appointments. Of course this is logically inconsistent, though, because if you do not observe a phenomenon, it does not mean that it is not present.

If that were the case and there were fewer USMAPS applicants this year, then would the few USMAPS applicants have a better chance at an appointment?

With the caveat that there are no such things as "USMAPS applicants", only USMA applicants. Additionally, if the "population he himself has observed" is referring to those candidates on the forum that have, or will, receive appointments...that 'number' will ultimatley roughly represent less than 10% of the total of 1200.

Is there a measure as to what you need to get into USMAPS?

From what I've seen, USMA's WCS has a 60% academic, 30% leadership, and 10% CFA composition. Is there something similar for USMAPS?

USMAPS is *usually* offered to candidates who have great leadership potential but are not academically qualified for USMA. Candidates do not apply directly to USMAPS, but are considered for USMAPS if they fit the criteria when they apply to USMA. As you have noted, it's still the same WCS. Again, those who admissions deem as needing a bit more "academic seasoning".

The members of this forum seem very academically inclined and well rounded, compared to prep school candidates comprised mostly of prior service soldiers (primarily active duty) and athletes whose academics and/or SAT/ACT are not up to par.

I'm not saying that someone could not get a prep school appointment, I just don't believe there are many "qualified" candidates

With that said - congrats to those appointed to either.

If there are fewer applicants, I would imagine that they would judge you all the more harshly, so to speak.

Does being added to the NWL and being qualified by WP Admissions hinder one's chances of being admitted to USMAPS? Also, can someone explain the NWL a little further? Is it a bad thing to be placed there?

If you don't get an appointment by winning a MOC slot, or spot from some other nominating source, but are otherwise fully qualified, you are placed on the nwl. Thus, many are placed on nwl, but many will receive appointments off the nwl. The top several hundred on the nwl receive appointments.

It's a second bite at the apple.
