Congratulations for your son. If USNA is his #1 college, which I think it is, I would recommend to make your reservations now for flights and hotels, as they will booked solid very soon at least the hotels within walking distance to Gates.
 
Congrats, I know the waiting is hard for us type A's.
Still it is pretty early, It seems the appointments are still flowing out fairly slowly but I bet the first big wave is very soon'

Marriot by foot, loews by shuttle, Maryland inn, or Scotlaur bed and breakfast both by foot( scotlaur over chick and ruth's and currently 2 rooms left for I day 30 Jun 2016.)

Hidden secret: Gibson's Lodgings, B&B, on Prince George St., adjacent to USNA Barry walk gate. Has its own free off-street parking, unlike most other B&Bs in DTA (downtown Annapolis).

There are many threads on Annapolis hotels, with a variety of "reviews" from the long chain of parents. Plenty of business chain options a few miles away near Mall area; many run shuttles downtown. Call the properties directly, ask for "Naval Academy friends and family rate," to find out if they have a promo code. They want your return business for PPW, football games, visiting your mid, 2/c Parents Weekend, Comm Week, wedding receptions! There is a cluster all within 1/4 mile of each other: Hampton Inn, Courtyard Marriott, Residence Inn, Fairfield, etc.

You can also park at Stadium and take special shuttle to and from Yard. Some stay at BWI airport hotels and do the 20-minute drive down to Stadium.

Once you know DD/DS has accepted, contact your nearest USNA Parents Club, all of whose members have been in your pre-plebe shoes.
