Has anyone ever asked their respective admissions counselor if their packet has been reviewed already? DS completed his packet in late Aug early Sept and still hasn't heard anything. My point is if the counselor can answer that it has been reviewed, then that could be a pretty good indicator that he has not been selected.

i have no idea what goes on in admissions but my gut instinct would tell me the exact opposite. i would think if he hadnt been selected you would have heard by now. doesnt mean he will get selected but he certainly appears to still be in the running.

DD is in the exact same situation. BGO can tell you if package has been reviewed, but cannot tell you admissions status. Just because package has been reviewed doesn't always mean failure to select. The entire process is murky at best. We're all waiting, hang in there!

Admissions seems really quick to ID the ones they want so if it was turned in way back in Sept ,was reviewed, but no decision after review then it gives you a better understanding of how you are fairing. As of right now I haven't heard of any rejections other than the ones last week for incomplete packets.

My DS completed his application in August - still waiting for "any" news...
Same... Been done since July 1st with application portion. Had med qualification and nomination in August and October. Not a word from USNA or NROTC since summer, and I have appointments to USAFA and West Point. I always wanted USNA, but at this point I'm getting ready to make a decision.

Please understand that nomination slates and applications were not required to be completed until ~20 days ago. It still takes a while for the remaining candidates to be pushed through the Admissions Board to determine slate winners. Only after that are appointments from the pools decided. Knowing whether one is reviewed won't provide additional information one way or another. Once again, USNA published April 15 as a notification date for a reason...give them until that time. You shouldn't be expecting to hear earlier...if you do hear earlier...great. This time of year everyone gets anxious....many people are in the same situation....the BEST thing to do is find a distraction and await the news, not try to "guess" on when one will hear or what any indications might be....it will only drive you nuts!

The deadline to accept my West Point appointment is the same day that I could potentially hear from USNA. I wish the academies coordinated more on that front.

That is why I posted this, my DS is in the same situation.

I'm honestly leaning strongly towards WP anyway and will probably accept in the next few weeks. I had always wanted Navy, but now that I've had 8 months to think about it and look into other options, I'm realizing how many opportunities USMA and the army have to offer. I already declined my USAFA appointment, so now my decision is whether to accept WP or wait for Navy.

Best of luck!!! DS is still wanting USNA, but if USMA is the only offer then he is good to go!

It is my understanding that accepting your USMA appointment does not preclude you from subsequently accepting a USNA or USAFA appointment. You just need to notify WP that you are accepting at another academy if that is what you decide to do. I don't think there is any harm or drawback to accepting the WP appointment.

The waiting is horrible! But keep in mind that noms were not due until 1/31 and some sources waited that long to get them in. Some candidates waiting until the deadline as well. Our understanding is they now need to "compare" their whole candidate scores and puzzle together the class. It's especially frustrating when some of the other colleges sent out admission letters within a week of a completed app! That's just not the way the USNA works!

can anyone confirm this?

^^ That is correct. Even if you accept your appointment, you can still change your mind or decide to attend college elsewhere. There is no 'obligation' associated with accepting your appointment. That is true of all SA's.

And also, it does not remove the candidate from further consideration by other academies.

Completely agree. USAFA and USNA are both May 1st. Someone always has to be different! :)

If it comes down to the wire, you could always call USMA in the second week of April and try and get a few days extension.

Isn't the WP "spot" already being held by the offer of appointment in and of itself? So why officially accept the offer knowing that if the USNA comes in it sounds like that person may turn around and decline the WP acceptance anyway?? The paperwork starts rolling in fast after you accept so it seems counterintuitive. Maybe it would be a better move to give USNA a little more time---it's only Feb. For now, it sounds like those with one offer waiting for another (possible first choice) should be patient and wait to see all of the options presented before accepting one and declining the other(s). The waiting is BRUTAL but to echo what someone else said, at this point, no news is still good news. You are still in the game. Good luck!
