Yesterday I received an appointment which was a dream come true for me. However, my worst fear is that it could possibly be rescinded. Does this happen often? My calculus and physics classes have become exponentially harder this semester, and I am worried about maintaining those grades. I'm sure a hint of senioritis could be a factor as well... But I am doing my best. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Get a tutor immediately! This happened to me last year in Calc and I made the mistake of waiting too long to get the tutor!

Calc, Physics and chem are notorious subjects that Plebes struggle with and face academic separation. It happens in steps, they struggle, ask for help if its not to late, (every Plebe is assigned a Yuk to watch over them) the teacher recommends additional study and they struggle. Then they try, lose sleep, fall behind in other subjects, stress out and either eat or not eat. Then they have a feeling of hopelessness and give up. Its a very fast slippery slope when they find things hopeless. There are several layers of assistance but the Plebe has to ask for it. If you don't have a strong foundation in these subjects before R-Day you may struggle. I would look for help and apply yourself. You have no idea the pressure you'll be under during your Plebe year.

Remember you offer of an appointment is conditional. It can be withdrawn if your grades fall.

Thanks for the input. I have a good foundation in all of those subjects and work very hard. I am not in any danger of failing these courses, I was just curious as to how far your grades must fall before your appointment is taken away. I know this won't happen to me I am simply curious.

Here's a scary tale...DS received appt in February (he was a college Freshman). He was taking calc 2 and chem 2 (w/ lab). Both classes were kicking his butt. He had all A's first semester...not so second time...he asked what would happen if he made a C. I told him one C was not a deal breaker. Later call: Mom, what happens if there's a D?? (me: Son, we DO NOT make D's in this family...). Much prayer and hyperventilating later...and a call to his FFR, who is a wonderful, supportive man...DS ended up w/ C's in 2 classes and the lab! Ugh!!! However, these were hard college classes, and his GPA was still solid. This semester at WP taking similar classes, he's got all A's. What's my point? Oh yeah, I ramble...don't go below a C; your mom cannot take the stress!!!! (BTW...two years ago on the mom's page there was a cadet who had appointment rescinded because he made 2 F's, but that's the only time I've seen that).
