I was looking on my portal today and at the very bottom of the page, I saw "USAFA Online Application v2.46j released 26 Jan 2016 Today's date is 2/10/2016 (US Mountain Time)." I was wondering what released meant... Does it mean that the Academy has already viewed my application or does it mean that my file is in a pile waiting to be reviewed?

Also, I was wondering, if I receive an appointment, would I receive notification immediately at the time of acceptance? Or would my portal update without me receiving notification of the update? Or would I find out in the mail first? If the portal is the first thing to be updated, how often should I check it? I have been checking it several times a day hoping that something has changed, but nothing does and I feel like this is just stressing me out more. Would it hurt to go a few days without checking it or should I check once a day?

Sorry there are kind of a lot of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have no first hand knowledge of this so I could be wrong. However, I suspect that is not in anyway related to the status of your personal application. I believe the first line is identifying the version of the online application software which you are viewing in your browser. The second line is just today's date. If you look at it tomorrow, I suspect the second line would change but I wouldn't expect the first line to change everyday if it is really the version of the software.

As to your other questions, again my limited experience with a single application, my DS, would seem to indicate that updates mostly occur as part of their batch processing. Although, on one occasion we have seen status of certain items change more than once during the day.

If you are getting stressed out by checking, there is certainly no harm in checking less frequently. The USAFA Admissions department is presumably very much in the middle of what is their busiest time of year. So certain items may presumably take longer to be processed at this time. On the positive side, they are in the phase which is the end game to the process for all of those seeking appointments.

Thank you for your reply! What you are saying makes sense. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to process my application. I am going to try to limit myself to checking once a day but it's hard because this is all I have really been thinking about lately. I guess I need to find a distraction or something.

Thanks again!

Hello, my DD got an email to check her portal when she got the letter of appointment so I would say wait for the email from the USAFA admission and enjoy your senior year:)

You will not receive anything from USAFA in the mail (except maybe a calendar haha). Like cezme said, you should get an email telling you to check your portal when there's an update. Some appointees actually get a call from their MoC before they get an email or portal update. That's how our DS was notified in 2014. The portal updated a couple days later. Most of the notifications for appointments go out in mid-March. Just plan on March and if it happens before then, that's great ! If it doesn't, then you're still in the game all the way up to June. Hope you can get this off your mind, keep working all your plans and enjoy your senior year.

This is what we see today:
USAFA Online Application v2.46n released 11 Feb 2016
Today's date is 2/24/2016 (US Mountain Time)

Not exactly sure if that means they have been through it or just software versions as stated before.

That was at the bottom of my application (with a different date) before mine was complete. I also saved a previous screenshot/pdf of what my portal looked like before it was finished so I could find any differences :)

From looking at last year's threads, it was discussed that some thought the version date correlated to the last date of a round of appointments. It kind of seems true, as the last update (and major appointment batch) was on 11 FEB, and 26 JAN. I guess we can see when the next round goes out if it changes to that date. You asked earlier how often to check your portal, and yes they do send emails..but also they usually release appointments late in the week. Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Hope that helps.

1. Text on bottom of portal - software update information -- nothing to do with your application.
2. MOCs are notified when their nominees receive appointment and given a few days to make the call -- not all do.
3. If you do not get a call, then you will get an email saying check your portal.
4. Portals update around 0300 (not every day), so no use checking more than once per day.
5. Unless you get an update saying you are not getting an appointment, you are still in the hunt. Our DD did not hear until April and we know of some that did not hear until late May. I have heard (but not confirmed) of an appointment made less than two weeks before I-Day.

Do lots of push ups, sit ups and running -- it will burn off the anxious energy and help you get ready for BCT.

Good luck -- and remember -- you are still in the hunt until specifically told otherwise. It makes no difference when you receive an appointment as long as you get one.
