Just wondering how long it takes the portal to be updated once you receive the MOC call. My DS received his call on Wednesday afternoon, but his portal has yet to be updated. We'd love to see something change there.

Bump.

CONGRATULATIONS to your DS! I'm on the same boat, see him there on R-Day.
I'm also waiting for my portal to update..been checking it every hour.
From what I've heard, it updates 3 days after the candidate is appointed. If this is true, and we were appointed on Tuesday (our MOC delivered the news on Wednesday) then our portal should update sometime between tonight and tomorrow. Private MSJ me whe your DS's portal updates. (IM EAGER TO ACCEPT MY APPOINTMENT)

From my experience, I received an MOC call on a Wednesday and then my portal was updated by Saturday morning. So it will probably (hopefully) update at midnight tonight! Congrats and see you on R-day!

Thanks for your replies! My DS checked his portal when he came in so I know he's anxious. Looking forward to my son being a part of this family!!

Is it standard to receive a MOC call prior to a portal update or letter when appointed?

Its more of a courtesy by West Point to inform the MOC about the appointed candidate, so that the MOC himself is the one who gives the candidate the good news. The academy contacts the MOC and he/she calls the candidate a couple of days before the BFE arrives or the portal updates.
At least, this is the norm. There are special circumstances, like presidential nominees. They usually find out about the appointment by way of BFE or Portal Update, rather than MOC call/email.
