Does this mean no appointment?

I received the qualified letter on my portal but I just found out that the nomination that I received from my congressman was ranked- I found out I'm #5 on the list

Does this mean no appointment for me? I haven't received a TWE.

It means just what is stated. Practice patience, stay out of trouble, stay healthy, work hard at school and apply yourself. Work on Plan B and C

@charliebrown - how strong is your application? Did you ever receive a LOE or any indication that you could be in the top 150 or could meet one of the class composition goals? There is more than the one vacancy that each rep typically uses each year for a candidate to get in. Multiple candidates from the same district get in each year. Some even come from the same school. So what are you bringing to the table and are you prepared to try again next year?

It all depends, I found out that on my MOC's slate I was ranked #9. I ended up finding out on my visit after I received my LOE that West Point often re-ranks the slate BUT they leave the primary and the alternate untouched. You have to remember that West Point has all of the information about you and the MOC does not. So in reality I was bumped up to #3 behind the two, and I ended up #2 because one was medically disqualified. If West Point wants you they'll shuffle the cards around to get you there. I am currently on the NWL (officially, not just based on the 3Q letter) and have been told that I should be "pretty comfortable" with my spot. I'm not sure if you know how the NWL works but the top 150 have to be offered appointments, and then they are allowed to jump around to fill spots (diversity/females/etc...).

It means your MOC ranked you #5. USMA will pick one from your MOCs list, starting at one, then 2, etc down the list till they find a qualified candidate. All remaining candidates go on to compete on a national basis for an appointment. On the national list only the SA ranking matters. It is quite common for multiple candidates to get appointments from the same MOC district.

I doubt West Point wants OP enough to shuffle the cards around for him like they did for you...

Considering we don't really know anything about OP I think it's unfair to "doubt" admissions would shuffle cards for him. There are so many factors and they do it so often, there's really no way to know. Keep your head up OP, it's not over until it's over!

We do know something about OP. And we know from your post and avatar that OP does not possess the same essential component of military acumen that compelled West Point to jump you from #9 to #3 on your, apparently ignorant and misogynistic, MOC's slate of candidates. It is tragic for the previously #3-#8 candidates in your district, and for the OP, that they did not possess this war-fighting pedigree.

West Point cannot "shuffle" a MOC's rankings, especially since they have to advise them who they select. West Point can chose to send an offer to someone further down on the ranking to fill a different vacancy AND then, IF enough candidates decline or are DQ'd, eventually slate that candidate into that spot provided there is not sufficient time select a suitable replacement (someone higher on the list). This is normal for candidates that we're going to get an appointment anyway (a Top 150 NWL spot, or are a class composition goal taking up an Additional Appointee vacancy) that moving them into a MOC spot late in the process gives the academy some flexibility of who else to bring in.

Of course, your RC is not going to say this in that much detail (kndnmc), so they give you a simplified version saying that they shuffled you up. They also don't expect that you are going to post that online and give misinformation out.
