What does it mean to be qualified for NAPS?

I called the Naval Academy admissions today regarding a few questions about my plan B incase I don't get into the Naval Academy. However, the gentleman I was speaking with looked into my file and said that I am qualified for NAPS. I was calling to ask a few questions about what they prefer to see on a second year applicant and he told me to just wait considering my application said I was qualified for NAPS. I am curious if anyone knows what qualified for NAPS means? Another admissions officer from the Naval Academy informed me that my application is currently on hold.

Does anyone know what these comments mean? Does everyone who is qualified for NAPS get accepted or do they have another selection process to cut down on NAPS offers?

Thank you for any comment/help!

I can't speak to what it means exactly, not sure even if anyone can on this board. I would venture to say it means as they rack and stack things you have been tagged as a possibility of NAPS. You aren't out of the running if you don't have a TWE. Appointment or NAPS are both great paths. If USNA is the school for you, and NAPS is presented as an official option, jump on it. Hang in there and let the process play out.

I second what NavyHoops said. Definitely a great plan B. I don't personally have experience with it but many recruited athletes go to NAPS first that don't qualify for direct entry. It's a way to prepare and I believe most are almost automatically accepted following NAPS as long as they are successful there, correct? They also are considered enlisted so receive pay and will come out of USNA with an extra year of service so a higher pay grade.

My DS was a USNA applicant/nominee who was told by his MOC coordinator that DS was being considered for NAPS around early March of 2015. A few weeks later he received the TWE, so I believe there is a "short list" and then admissions further culls the list down.

Agree with gokings... There are lots of lists right now at admissions. I am guessing they are changing by the hour at this point. Just keep pushing ahead, hope for the best, prepare for plan b, c, d. gokings DS is a prefect example of how fast these lists can change.

I'm interested in the phone call to USNA... Sounds like you can call and get a status update on the file? Anyone have insight here?

Never called by DS checked portal regularly and did email with questions and always got good responses, their admission contact is listed in their portal.

I know we are all going crazy with the waiting, but you have to feel a little bit for the folks in admissions. Their job is huge and they only have a finite amount of time left to get it done. I wouldn't feel right reaching out a to them with a question about status at this point. If portals haven't updated, you know you are still in the running.

Agree no need to call admissions. It's not April 15th yet. Even the candidate who called didn't get a definite answer to anything, in reality he got a 'you are on a possible list' and pretty much doesn't know anything more than he did before. If you don't have a TWE, you are in the running for something until that arrives. Hang in there.

What do you mean? Did the DS just out and ask about their status?
Originally when it was pending he wanted to add something to his file. And yes, at one point after completing the last requirement for his LOA he had not had a status change and inquired.

I called and asked if my 7th semester transcript was received. They said yes, then they told me that my application had been seen by the board. No news is good news! Still nerve wracking though.

Same here.

I was told it was currently being reviewed on Wed. No news so far.... I almost wish I hadn't called to confirm receipt of transcripts.

Good luck all!

They will need it.

USAFA did not request it but USMA did. Just sent to both anyway. USAFA said they will need 7th and 8th semester transcripts, but I assume that would be if you are offered and accept appointment.

I think they want to see that you are still working hard as a senior.

Hang in there everyone... I feel the same way. I don't know about everyone else but I haven't seen much posted to this forum lately which could mean a number of things, but I tend to think either the appointments, TWE's, NAPS being sent out aren't on this forum OR the appointments, TWE's, NAPS have slowed this week and maybe we'll see a ton of action next week. Either way, I know, it's so painful. Hopefully we'll all have some good news of some kind next week. Hoping for very few TWE's!
