By pulling your hair out, getting therapy, and after the counseling just deciding to scrap the academy idea and attend rodeo clown college instead. Lol.So what happens if you get an offer of appointment by USMA, are required to accept/decline by 15 April but are on a waitlist with USNA? USNA can come back as late as June with an appointment, right? Fabulous problem to have, but a tough one. How would you handle it?
National decision deadline for all colleges is 1 May. West Point moves up the deadline for the first round of offers to 15 April to try to clear things up. That way they can turn some offers to #2's before 1 May and others on the wait list can make a good decision (i.e. Send out TWEs to #2 when #1 accepts). So what happens if you get an offer of appointment by USMA, are required to accept/decline by 15 April but are on a waitlist with USNA? Well, I guess there are differing opinions. I surmised that because anne99 applied to USMA, she would be delighted to attend USMA if USNA did not come through. Assuming she would want to attend USMA if no last minute offer from USNA, then I don't think she needs to pass on USMA just because USNA was her first choice (and be left with replying next year to USNA); even if accepting at usma may mean someone else will not get that spot until the eve of R day. No need to throw herself on the sword. She earned a spot at WP, and has the option of accepting it; even if she withdraws it later in favor of accepting a late offer from USNA.
But, to each his/her own I guess.
A little off topic. Please correct me if I am wrong. The service academy is only obligated to give an appointment to one application for each MOC slate. They are not obligated to have one accepted applicant per MOC slate. So in the event #1 declines the offer the SA is not obligated to give #2 an appointment. They could fill that opening, if it even creates an opening, from the national pool.I am ranked second in my district and am waiting on the #1 ranked student to make a decision...
