My DS received his Offer of Appointment this weekend, scheduled an overnight this morning for late April, then received his BFE this afternoon which caused some confusion. It said that he must decline/accept his Offer of Appointment by April 15. I had thought that the deadline was May 1. I don't recall why I first got that date in my head, but I do know that my DS received a letter saying that Offers of Appointment could be issued through May 1. Perhaps, I got the idea there or at one of the several briefings that we attended. Can anyone speak to this April 15 date?? He would like to visit before he commits, but he cannot travel by April 15.

I got the same April 15 date in my BFE and from my FFR to accept appointment. I think you could accept and then back out, but that's probably something you would only want to use as a last resort.

Does anyone know if there would be a punitive aspect to "changing your mind"? Our DS is still awaiting a response from USNA and USAFA. Apparently, those two should let him know by April 15 so it probably will not be a problem to decide by April 15, but it sure would be nice if he could do an overnight at a couple before making final commitment.

My DS got offers of appointment to USMA, USNA And USAFA
USNA And USAFA have A May 1 drop dead date
USMA has April 15
No idea why

Last year, our DS requested an extension for a later date due to the exact circumstance you mentioned. His admissions officer granted the extension via email.

DD was on the bubble last year awaiting for principle nominee to commit. We now know this family. Their DS was waiting on USNA notification of appointment- to no avail by April 15th. He then accepted for USMA on the 15th. So, grumpysenior there is a good chance DS will not hear from other SA's prior to the 15th. You may consider advise from USMAROTCfamily and ask for extension.

There is NO problem with changing your mind. You don't really start the program until you show up on R-Day and are under no obligation prior to that time even if you accept your appointment and then change your mind for whatever reason.
