End of the line for my DS, he received his denial letter from USNA this morning.
He is quite disappointed as he really liked our trip to Annapolis.
Thanks for all the help and guidance on the forums, will let you know if he gets an offer to USCGA which he is still waiting to hear from.
He hasn't really discussed if he goes to his backup university if he will reapply, only time will tell on that one...
 
For those of you that haven't seen the rejection letter... GOOD! Lets hope you don't, but here it is:

Dear Wesley,

Thank you for applying to the United States Naval Academy Class of 2020. I regret that we are unable to offer you an appointment to the Naval Academy or its preparatory programs this year. The competition for admission is keen and each year we must turn away many young men and women with great potential.

A number of factors were considered to determine your eligibility for an offer of appointment, these include but are not limited to, scholastic background, leadership experience, extra-curricular activities, athletics, and standing in a particular nomination category. Unfortunately, if you had a medical waiver pending, there will be no further review of your medical status.

I do want you to know that there are a significant number of midshipmen currently enrolled at the United States Naval Academy who were not successful in their initial or subsequent attempts to gain admission, were admitted after two or more years of college. If you wish to reapply next year, you can continue to strengthen your application by continuing your education in a technical major at a 4-year college. The curriculum followed by all first and second year Midshipmen at the U. S. Naval Academy, regardless of major selection, provides the greatest opportunity to strengthen your application and includes the following courses: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Chemistry I and II (with a lab), Physics I and II (with a lab). More advanced courses in math, science and engineering will also bolster an application.

Finally, I want to let you know that there are other options for becoming a Naval or Marine Corps Officer, including Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) found at various universities, or Officer Candidate School (OCS) which you can attend after college graduation. Your local recruiter can provide more information. Thank you again for your interest in the Naval Academy and I wish you every success in the future.

Same fate for my DS. he just forwarded me USNA's denial email. He's a little bit disappointed but at least he's backup has just been secured last week. He got his acceptance from his 1st choice of university (RPI) for his NROTC scholarship. One way or another he's still on his way on becoming a naval officer.
 
Same here. DS has his solid backup and plans to try again next year. Now he just needs to research what he will need to do to be a better candidate for the class of 2021. Any advice in that area besides what is suggested in the denial letter?
 
It has been a long 7 months after submitting all info, and this is where it ends. Now on to preparing for TAMU and the Corps, and planning on reapplying for CO 2021 ;) regrets to everyone who has also received a TWE/ rejection email, but remember: Dont Give Up The Ship!

My DS will be at TAMU in the Corps as well and reapplying for 2021. I have seen quite a few kids going this route. Hopefully they will all find each other and work together.
 
My son's BGO was in shock -- felt he was the strongest applicant he had seen in long while. Already followed up with admissions -- stated the usual "very competitive class" and "smaller class size than in years past". Could offer no insight as to what the deal breaker was ...
As everyone else says: Onward with Plan B!!
 
I feel awful for everyone who received a TWE. This happened to my DS exactly one year ago shortly after he visited USNA, and at first he was crushed.
As a parent, it feels like your heart breaks twice as hard watching your kid feel the disappointment.

All I can share is that the best solution for this is to move onto Plan B and/or Plan C. For some that is reapplying next year, others some branch of ROTC.

My DS ended up going non-contracted AROTC at UNR and worked his butt off. He earned a 3 1/2 year scholarship within a few months into his fall semester. He is thriving in his battalion and an example of how Plan C can actually be Plan A+.

I Recieved my TWE for USNA today, but I'm still waiting on USMA. My backup after that is the Corps at TAMU. PM me about it?
 
We went through the heartbreak of the TWE 2 years ago. DD went to a local 4 year college, taking Linear Algebra, Chemistry and other classes I can't remember. She also picked up club rugby (I think lack of team sport participation may have hurt her first application). She did well at the academics, and reapplied. She is now a member of the Class of 2019, and doing well.

When the Academy says they like reapplicants, they mean it. If your DS or DD really wants the Academy, encourage them to do well at college and reapply!

Sorry to hear, @F15DOC. Looking at past posts, I am shocked given your DS's stats.

Everything happens for a reason. Best wishes with the USCGA!
