Ugh. So I am sick of waiting to hear about SS. I know some people who have already been accepted. Do the people that have not heard pretty much not have a chance? I just want to know so I can move on with my summer plans. It's killing me!
If the people who have not hear (like me) are going to be rejected, when will they tell us?

ktnatalk is correct. The nomination/appointment process will be much worse. We're not talking about a week in your summer. We're talking about 4 years of college and then 5+ years afterwards which will be in the balance.

Just go with the flow.

Our DS is waiting to hear from NASS too. Rejections won't go out until around May 1st. It's only the middle of March. They have 2550 NASS slots to fill, and most likely the Admissions folks are focusing on the appointments and rejections for the Class of 2020. A bunch of TWEs went out, so apparently the Admissions folks have their hands full.

You're not rejected until they tell you you're rejected, so you're still in the game!!!
 
BTW, the fact that you're from Northern Virginia is probably why you haven't heard from Admissions. NoVA is heavily represented at the USNA, and NASS is a recruitment tool. No need to give a NASS slot to a NoVA candidate when (1) you already know about USNA, (2) you will probably apply even if you don't get into NASS, and (3) it's easy for you to just visit the Yard. It's nothing bad about you. It's where you live.
 
Padre, that may not be true. I am aware of multiple students from same schools within an hour from the yard attended NASS.

I think the essays in those cases may have made a difference.

Okay, I stand corrected. Just out of curiosity, were they recruited athletes? Under-represented minorities?
 
Padre is actually somewhat correct. Proportionally, less students from MD/NOVA/DC will be accepted to NASS because of their proximity and the NASS target audience. That doesn't mean that no one from the area is accepted to NASS.
 
Padre, they were not. I really think the personal statement is a huge factor. Maybe the school profile was seriously considered as well.

I do agree with usnabgo08 though.
 
As with the actual admissions process, NASS applications are not processed in a perfect queue. First in, doesn't mean first out. Furthermore, the application is open for another two weeks. Patience is a virtue.
 
My DS (3/C '18) ended up waitlisted for SS and found out about his slot in late April as I recall. Hang in there.
 
But that's the thing guys, I wouldn't be so anxious if some of my friends from my own school had not already heard. There's a few people that have actually already been accepted to NASS and I have not heard anything. I did not think it was rolling, but then I talked to my blue and gold officer at military night and I guess it is.... I don't really know though. Their website says its not, yet some people have already been accepted.

You also could be waitlisted .........My son heard about acceptance to NASS late last spring, mid April I believe. However, one year he was waitlisted for STEM and literally had less than a week's notice.
 
navyafgirl, get used to the anxious. Take this as a chance to learn to deal with anxiety. You haven't even gotten on the roller coaster ride yet. You are on the platform waiting. Next year you could have classmates who apply who get an LOA in Sept, someone with an Appt in Oct and you could still be waiting in mid-March. And all of you could have your applications done in July or August. This is just how the process works. It is not a perfect first in and next out process for any of this stuff. So much of the military are things you can't control, you learn how to focus and worry on those you can and put what you can't to the back of your head. I wish you the best of luck, but learning to deal with waits and anxiety is not only a part of life but a big part of the military.
 
To help with the anxiety, what I did was signed up for a summer sports camp, that way I could plan on that and forget about it. Right after I did that and quit worrying my acceptance letter came for NASS
 
I came back from a military info night for the county tonight. We all know "the past cannot predict the future" - one slide from the BGO shows 127 from Maryland went to NASS last year! (Not a typo!) :jaw:

Also, someone might want to post this in the right thread:
For USMA applications from Maryland this year, 228 applied (including those did not complete), 12 were offered appointments, 8 accepted so far, and there are currently 13 still pending a decision.

So out of 2250 NASS attendees, 125 were from Maryland? Is that high or low? I think that is low.
