My daughter and I just got back from Luke Air Force Base "Thunder in the Desert" A wonderful day of airplanes and all things Air Force.....we saw the Thunderbirds but I think the highlight of her day was the F-22 Raptor and the C-17 demos....she is surer than ever that USAFA is the place to be....She is very excited about the journey ahead!!!

I'd have to assume that the C-17 demo didn't have as tight of turns as the F-22 demo...

Glad your family enjoyed the show!

Ya know Bullet...those '17 drivers DO put on a VERY nice show though...they really do make that "T-Tail" move around the circle...VERY impressive. If they were defensive and you/I were offensive...the gun track would take some time...

'Bout a second and a half, but it'd take some time...:thumb:

But it IS a nice demo! :shake:

C-17 pilots is CRAZY! they look as if they think they're flying some f-22's or something... i saw one land as if he thought he was landing on a carrier... crazy stuff...

Thing is, would your missiles hit?

That thing has to be pretty well protected.

If I locked him up "from a distance..." and then put a "Slammer" onto him...

How do I put this delicately...

He'd be SPEARED!:rocket:

If I chose a "heater" then I'd defer to Bullet because I'm probably a couple generations of AIM-9 behind...but in MY day...a "Lima" or "Papa" would do nasty things to his disposition...

But to REALLY make it fun, since it IS a trash hauler...

:guns4:

Haha no defense against guns.

Hell, I'm thinking of trying for a flight slot but I'm trying to figure out what airframes I'd like to go for (travel options are my big deboggle right now) and transports/tankers were a possiblility. Not so sure I want to now. Just remember everyone "Friendly Fire.... isn't"

COD4

Okay...here's a very different perspective.

I had the pleasure/honor to fly both "fast movers" and "heavies."

The "fast movers" (F-15C/D) are a LOT of fun!!! Fighters...what can I say?

The "heavies" (KC-135A/E/R) are a great "see the world" platform. Their mission is "real time" all the time. VERY critical, and you fell very good ALL the time you're doing the mission.

Which is better?

Can't tell you...if you like the fighter community; then the Eagle is HARD to beat! BUT...if you want to see the world, feel as if you're making a difference...then the KC is a fabulous platform: classic.

I was blessed to do both!

It is acturally known as the Strike or the F-15E, no need for the S. And they don't fall apart.

The Strike is a great jet, but remember you will rotate between 3 bases, SJAFB, Lakenheath and Mt. Home. Alaska is now a 22 base. You do great tdy's, except for the sandbox rotation, but they typically are to the same places over and over again. Nellis for Red/Green Flag. AK for Cope Thunder, Hill for WSEP. However, since the objective is to do some heavy dog fighting nobody complains.

Ok, so Red Flag is all about the Fighters, but does anybody know about Rodeo? Apparently, my mom flew the KC-135 in it, and they do "fun activities"-for lack of a better term- also in the desert over Arizona. I googled it to get more info, but didn't come up with much...

JW cuz I'm really into AF heavies too

nope, i mean what I said. Did anyone hear about the F-15SE. The F-15 "Silent Eagle". Prototype was just unveiled the other day, my dad mentioned it to me. Basically they just smoothed out the front of it, altered the tail fins a little, and added internal weapon capabilities. Only really stealth from head on, but hey, it's a little less visible. Google it.

(I know the F-15Es don't fall apart, just the c/ds! I got a nice little vacation out of that deal so I could visit my dad when he went to Hawaii for engine maintenane for the F-16s that flew alerts in place of the grounded 15s.)

I heard about that. It was designed for international customers who cannot afford the 35 and aren't allowed to get the 22. I don't think its targeted for our Air Force at all.
