How did you find out about your appointment?

Hello,

I'm just wondering, I am a 3Q'd candidate with a Senatorial Nomination from NY to USMA... I got a medical waiver last week from my broken ankle during football this fall and instantly got the 3Q letter. I see multiple sources saying that the appointment update is a MOC call, and then a bunch saying its a portal update, and then a few are saying that you gotta wait for it in the mail.

I was just offered a appointment to USAFA and USMMA... so the last one I'm waiting on is USMA. Just wondering how everyone found out. Pretty anxious to be honest.

Thanks to everyone and I appreciate the time taken to answer my question!

It depends on your MOC for the most part. Some choose to call some don't. How were you notified of your other appointments?

For USAFA, I got a portal update and a email saying that my status changed.

For USMMA, I got a BFE in the mail.

My Congressman nominated me to USAFA and USMMA as well, and I didn't get any updates/phone calls from them.

You most likely will not get a phone call this way either then. Congrats on your current appointments, and keep checking email, portal and mailbox!

With USMA, there is a pecking order for notification of an appointment.
The MOC is given the first opportunity to congratulate the appointee. They are given 72 hours in which to do so, if they choose to.
Then, the FFR can Congratulate the appointee. West Point will also then update the portal, but not until the 72 hours have passed. At the same time,West Point has prepared the BFE and shipped it.

Ok awesome, I appreciate the information!

@MajorLazor did your portal update for USMMA before the BFE?

That is the clearest information I've read so far - thank you sooooo much! Still anxiously awaiting ...

We actually found out before DS. The Congressman's office called us to find out when the best time would be for the Congressman to make the phone call. This was probably one of the hardest "secrets" that we have ever had to keep - we wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but it was not our story to tell, so we kept our mouths shut for almost 48 hours!!! DS was not home until late the day and the day after we initially found out, and the Congressman wanted to call when we were all home. Then, the FFR called to congratulate DS - and we had to pretend that the conversation with him was about something completely different, as he didn't want to speak with DS before the Congressman.

MOC finally was able to speak with our DS Friday evening; his portal updated within 24 hours of the call, and BFE arrived the following Tues.

Sending best wishes to you - hang in there!

Btw - DS had to wait for a medical waiver as well. He received the 3Q letter (DS had the Principal Nom from our Congressman), waiver was granted, and then the Admissions Board met the following Tuesday after the waiver was granted, and we received the first call from the MOC's office the Wednesday after the Board met. It happened very quickly once the waiver was granted. So if your path is following DS's, the Board will meet tomorrow - so you may hear something by Wed. However, this is a holiday week, so it could be very different.

Ok awesome! Actually to be honest, I am meeting with my Congressman this week because he is presenting me an award for Civil Air Patrol so there is hope... but anyways, thanks for the update and congratulations!

So yeah, It was a little bit of a longer timeline for me, but I was awarded a appointment this morning via Portal Update! Good luck to everyone still. My RC said that 80% of the class is filled up.

MOC call. We were on vacation and I make my DS charge his phone…just in case. He plugged it in and we went out for dinner. When we got back there was a message from MOC. woo hoo!

Would anyone who were appointed mind sharing a screenshot of how their portal change looks like under the overview tab? I just want a clarification on what to expect :)

@vdad20 - It was for vision. One eye did not meet the DODMERB requirements. He required further/deeper vision/eye exams to make sure it would be correctable. Which it is. Thank goodness. Once he has one year of no prescription changes, he qualifies for lasik.

**edited to add that he received the waiver, then almost immediately got the 3Q. I typed it backwards in the previous post.
