Is my understanding correct?

After reading various posts, I want to check my understanding of appointment status updates. My DS portal status states "complete pending review". Does this mean:

1. He is 3Q
2. Nomination on file (he received MOC nomination in December)
3. Final review not complete (he was asked to submit 7th semester grades which he has)

So for next steps:
1. MOC state slate needs to be finalized which could include an appt for my DS.
2. If DS doesn't get appt for MOC nomination he could get appt under some other MOC's empty slate but this will take some time to sort out.

My remaining questions:
1. If DS is on NWL, how would it be stated on portal?
2. Is there any communication/awareness between SA's? DS has received appt for USMMA. Does this help/hurt/not make any difference for USNA appt?
3. Does admissions board review entire state candidates at the same time and make appt decisions or is it random?

For those who have the knowledge, please correct any of the above statement. Thanks!

murf's hyperlink goes to the West Point (USMA) thread, which is one letter off from the one you want :) I don't think there's a USMMA one yet officially. As far as I know, the SAs evaluate independently of each other - no added points for getting into a different one.

First, USNA does not ever tell you if you are 3Q, so it will never be on your portal. The NWL also will not show on portal.

You cannot be appointed by any other MOC than the one who nominated you; unused MOC slates are simply unused. Extra appointments come from the national pool, to fill out the class after the MOC slates have been chosen. Your nom from MOC qualifies you to go into the national pool, if you do not "win the slate".

1. It won't show on his portal. He would only know if his BGO or Admissions Counselor tells him.
2. No, it won't make any difference.
3. A slate will be reviewed before a decision is made. Exactly how the slate is reviewed is only known by admissions.

Thanks EOD/SEALmom. So next portal update will either be:

1. Appt
2. Denial
3. NAPS

Any other possible portal updates?

As long as his portal states "complete pending review" is it true that he is still in the running for MOC slate or and NWL?

1. Appt
2. Denial
3. NAPS/foundation
4. Wait List

NWL-National Waiting List. But it should really be the national pool. After the MOC slates are evaluated, all remaining qualified applicants compete on a national basis for the remaining appointments. However, it does not seem to be a linear process. They don't do MOC slates then the National Pool, they seem to do it all at the same time. I would think that about now they are figuring out where where all the appointments are being slated, and where they are going to make the next appointments to fill the wholes and comply with their statutory mandate for filling the class.

The NWL and being 'wait-listed' are 2 different things. Hopefully, people aren't getting confused by those recent discussions.

I agree 'National Pool' is a clearer name for NWL.

My question is: do things show up on the portal as they happen? Our child has received a full ride to his top school through NROTC but we don't know about admittance to that school yet. Meanwhile waiting and waiting (complete pending review...) for USNA. Do they notify the nominating congressperson/ senator before posting anything on the candidate information system? Thanks.

They normally will notify a MOC first in case of appointment. They usually give them a few days to call before portal updates. You won't hear from a MOC for the other items, just portal updates.

Thanks; we just found out today from the MOC (ha! these acronyms!) that he got into the USMMA; still waiting for USNA, of course. Does the fact that he got the other appointment and scholarship lessen his chances for USNA? He hasn't accepted those yet, of course.

No, an appointment to one SA or another scholarship will not impact a different SA. Congrats on USMMA.

My son also has a USMMA appointment - congrats!

For anyone who thinks they may know; when do the "national pool" decisions begin? Is there a time-frame when the MOC choices have been made and then the national pool begins? Thanks!

Honestly none of us really know unless admissions says something. They could of already handed some of them out, none or all of them for all we know. Just my gut feeling and nothing to prove it... My guess are some of the folks that are clearly at the top might have already been notified. Like I said nothing more than my gut or proof for that.

My DD is in a similar situation. Offered appointment to USMMA. Has received NROTC scholarship. USNA is complete pending review - since September. Since she also needs an eye waiver and that's still pending for USNA (USMMA granted waiver in Dec), I'm thinking that USNA isn't going to be an option this late in the admissions cycle. Over the past year, USMMA has been fantastic to DD and has treated her very well. She'll be very happy there.
