Well, it has been fun everyone. Thanks for your input and comments since January. Checked the portal this afternoon (1:30 pm) like always and this time it was different. I had to do a double take...
"Turned down by USNA"

Since I have been having dialogue via e-mail with our Regional Officer over the past year, after meeting with him in person during my son's Junior Year, when we went to the Army-Navy game, I put a call into him to get his feedback. Mostly the party line, but he confirmed that my son is in that middle group that is qualified, but too qualified to go to NAPS or Foundation. So.... he is going to be an Auburn Tiger with his NROTC Scholarship plus another $24,000 they awarded him in scholarship $$$. Not sure that he will reapply or not. My guess is that he will make a lot of friends and will have fun being at a "regular" college, to want to start over. In this day and age, performance in the fleet trumps USNA vs ROTC, plus he's been in Sea Cadets for years and went through a 2 week Special Warfare SEAL training last summer and earned his Trident pin (authorized by the SEAL community), so he already has a leg up on military bearing and gone through training tougher than Plebe Summer.

Wishing all the best to those still in the process AND those already accepted, good luck and enjoy the experience!

In recent years, Auburn's NROTC unit had a good reputation. I am sure it still does.

At least there is finally resolution. Good luck on the Plan B I'm sure he will do great. I just checked my son's portal it's still CPR in CA.

If you wouldn't mind sharing, did you get an email?

Sorry to hear the news '88... Auburn is a great option. Tons of friends who commissioned that path, great program. If he reapplies, I am sure he will get the BFE. If he doesn't, nothing wrong with that either!

I really appreciate reading your input and commentary over the past month I have been a member of this forum. Did they indicate what they consider to be too qualified for NAPs and Foundation?

Sorry to hear, and surprised too!
Once your son starts at Auburn, he won't look back and won't regret ANYTHING.
It will work out (and is working out) for the best for him, no doubt about it.

I predict your son will be in BUDS in 5 years. Thanks for the dialogue. They make their way! No luck needed, only perseverance.

Been there done that. Ouch. Actually still there. We are now getting the rejection letters for Plan B too.

Hey we have an older Son who might be a Tiger this year also. He has been accepted but is waiting on his financial aid package to see if he can swing it. He is A John Deere Tech, married with a son, so it is iffy.

Sounds Like Auburn and NROTC really recognize your Sons value! There is a lot to be said for that.

WAR DAM EAGLE

Congrats to your son on his ROTC scholarship and his Auburn acceptance! So sorry about USNA, but this is a darned fine alternate plan. Eyes on the end prize of commissioning as a U.S. Naval Officer! Sure that, if he earned that trident, there are great, great things in his future.

Sorry to hear, and surprised too!

I'm surprised, too! He's going to be a great officer, just not in the way he originally expected. Wishing him the best!

I am so disappointed for you and your son '88... And at the same time shocked as well. But I believe things happen for a reason and just the fact that he had earned the NROTC 4yr is huge. One of my son's best friends is going to Auburn next year. Actually he has several friends going. It's a great school with a great engineering program! And he'll still realize his goal as a Naval Officer! I wish you both all the best! And can't believe this UGA Dawg is about to say this but WAR DAM EAGLE

I also you wish you and your DS all the best. So sorry to hear the news.

Congrats on Auburn! Your DS has accomplished so much already. I know you are super proud of him. No doubts he will continue to excel. Wow hard to believe the news. This is truly a tough process and like normal college admissions sometimes very subjective.

All the best.... From another proud dad
