What does CPR even mean at this point?

After stalking the forums and checking the portal an obscene amount of times today. I started thinking about what this could all mean. Obviously, with the Wait list's release today, what does that leave everyone who is CPR such as myself? Surely, if they picked the Wait list, would that not mean they picked all of their candidates to receive an appointment such as in a civilian school, if that's true then they could easily just notify every candidate that they did not get in. These questions got me thinking deeper though, why would they do this the week before their last week before the deadline. Clearly, they could of just wanted to get it done or something to that extent but that doesn't make complete sense. First and foremost, the academy is an academic institution, and if I know anything from going to a college-prep private school with retired admissions officers to help us, they always are working to the last possible second. Now last Friday the 25th I received a call from my BGO, he said that he sent multiple emails trying to contact the higher ups about a delay in the admissions process. If I understand what he said correctly, He said that in December the admissions board got backed up with applications. Having submitted my application in November, which I deeply regret now even though other obligations were holding me back (Thanks college prep school), my application was backed up and apparently wasn't in circulation or something to that extent. Evidently, a massive amount of applications must of been submitted in December, which I suspect is partly Naptown Funk's fault. Therefore, if you're still CPR did you submit your application in November also because this isn't adding up to me. Maybe they are leaving this week to sift through those applications that didn't make through the clog.

Nevertheless, this is all just speculation and just me trying to get a handle on all that is happening. I'd just like to thank everyone hear for making the wait just a little bit more bearable, and wish them the best of luck.

I was wondering the same exact thing about what it means at this point. I finished everything in my application by the very beginning of September however I am still CPR. I am not sure what exactly it means either. I have only seen that you are still in the running. Well I am also confused as to what that means too at this point. Does that mean we are competing still for antappointment or for a spot on the wait list? I am very interested in any explanation please.

Here's what it means: "hurry up and wait". There is a method to the Academy's madness: trouble is, we'll never know exactly what it is. The good news is that you haven't heard "no" which means you're still in the mix. Hang in there. Be patient. (Easier said than done, right?) You might get an answer tomorrow, next week or in 30 days. Stay positive. Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.

My son who is still CPR- NY 23, had his entire application submitted in full by November 15th, including his medical qualification , references, interviews, and PFT. We wish he would have redone his fitness because he had just came off of football after being a tough season and body was not at his top. He plays full-time with no breaks. Not knowing the process, it was a hurry up we need to get this done. He has not heard from BGO since his interview. Any questions we had, we went to his USNA admissions counselor, who was extremely helpful. He had an awesome 4 hr interview with is BGO and a great interview with the congressman panel. We are also waiting for results from the NROTC- Marine Option board. He has been accepted into the colleges, but we can't afford them without the scholarship. Plan A- USNA or NAPS, Plan B- NROTC, Plan C will be direct enlist. My son is looking for a military career. Hoping for good news this next week. Good Luck to you!

It means wait. None of us know if they released the entire wait list this week or not. Just because a few on this board posted doesn't meant all xxx amount were. Every year the same posts are made and the only answer is... Wait it out. USNA doesn't make the April 15th arbitrarily, 99% of decisions are made by that point.

Praying your son will get an offer of appointment, but please talk with your BGO or Admissions or the Moderators on this forum before enlisting. It sounds like your son is very well qualified and I get that he'd like to move things along. But, have you considered the option of taking classes at a local college and then reapplying next year? If you can do it without paying room and board, it may not be unreasonably expensive. I guess the question is whether your son would be happy with enlisting, or if he really wants to be an officer. Definitely sounds like officer material to me! Just something to think about. Good luck!

Thank You. I appreciate all input and guidance. His only family military connections are 3 great grandparents that were in WWII. He really wants to be an officer and wants the military career. I know the military is his calling and can see him in politics after retirement. He has the leadership, community involvement, many extra curricular activities besides the sports. He is very well-rounded. He is a 3 sport athlete, Football, Wrestling, least favorite Track. He has been accepted to Virgina Tech, SUNY Maritime and Ohio State for the Mechanical Engineering programs. Waiting list for RPI. SAT/ACT are good but really wish they were higher. I believe that is his only downfall. As his Mom, I'm the one stressed on the process. He is very determined to find another route if the first ones don't work out. 2 weeks!

As a BGO, I see this play out every year - this year with my own DD (for the record - I'm not her BGO, nor are any of the kids at her school where I am the assigned BGO). Yes, my wonderful, bright, intelligent DD is CPR for Navy. As I tell all of my candidates each year, have a back up plan. So, DD applied to 8 other schools, and has an offer of appointment to USMMA (where she's likely to go and is excited about), has an NROTC to GWU, and got into many other top schools. The profile I see of kids that are still CPR at this point, or even waitlist, are those who the Academy wants, but just doesn't have room for. I know this may come as a surprise, but there are many who were offered appointments to USNA that haven't yet committed one way or the other. A lot of schools just notified applicants yesterday (or within the last week) of their decisions, financial aid offers, etc. Those who applied to other schools now have more choices to consider and many will choose NOT to attend USNA for one reason or another. This opens up more opportunities to make new offers of appointment.

Another reason for a wait list vs. CPR is that many wait listed kids are 3Q. Some of those with CPR still need a medical waiver of some type, or a nomination. My DD is one of those who has a nom, but needs an eye waiver - yet the waiver for USMMA came through back in December (each SA has their own waiver authority and cares not one bit about what another SA does).

So, despite being a legacy (DD would be 4th generation USNA), excellent SAT/ACT, #2 in her class, pre-engineering program and dual enrollment courses, varsity swim captain (4 letters), NHS, National Technical Honor Society, etc. etc (not unlike all the others still in the hunt), and lots of involvement in USNA by me, I'm not holding out hope for USNA this late in the game. It just is what it is. I'll likely be making many trips to Kings Point next year, which I'm fine with as long as that's where DD decides that she wants to go. Like other kids who don't end up at Navy, they end up where they're supposed to be and usually don't look back.

For top performing kids, not getting into USNA is probably the first time they've ever NOT made it in to something they wanted - especially with all the work it takes to get there. Let it be a great life lesson and don't be too disappointed if your DD or DS isn't a Mid at USNA next year. There are other schools and life does go on.

swrakow, I admire and applaud your attitude, I thank you for your volunteer service, and I wish your daughter all the very best as she finds her path. The USNA community is very lucky to have you.

Don't mean to burst everyone's bubble... We just have to stop thinking about it. Relax for a bit, and get your mind off of overthinking was your status means. Plan for the worst, accept it, and hope for the best.

I am CPR since JULY 3RD! Does it suck? Yes. Is there anything I can do? No. We just have to accept the military and in particular the Navy's decisions for such a process. It does suck, but that doesnt mean the wait isn't worth it for any academy.

Hang in there everyone.

Awesome advice here!!! This is quite true for so many. Your kids will follow your lead. Embrace what is , not what could have been.

oh if I had a nickel.....Is what it is. Thy will be done. Out of your hands. In God's hands. Everything happens for a reason. Can't worry about what you can't control. Honestly, I am fine and so is he! When he reapplies next year (if necessary) I would rather tell a sole than a soul! (A sole can't ask "did you hear?" Just in case you needed clarification.)

Nothing to do with when your app was completed. DS had everything in except interview & CFA by 8/1 & those 2 before 9/1. Still CPR. He's had an Appointment at USMMA since November. I'm feeling blessed to know my biggest "problem" lately is determining his graduation party theme--USNA or USMMA. Although we are a little frustrated at the delay, we are thrilled either way.

@jenmarshall1974 Our kids will likely become very good friends at USMMA next year.

What about if we don't need a waiver, or we have a nomination? Does that disprove your theory? I am CPR and that applies for me. I was medically qualified and have nominations

Perhaps you weren't as competitive on the CFA, or your SAT/ACT scores are on the bubble.

Go with some version of stars and stripes? Or some sort of boat theme could work! Good luck!
