I know Colorado is a very very competitive state for appointments and I've only seen I think 2 from the appointment thread. Just curious if Colorado appointments are normally a little later? Anyone waiting in Colorado like me?

I'm in co and I haven't heard either. Also, does anyone know when they give out vp nominations? I haven't seen any of those on this forum yet and I'm hoping for one, I know it's a long shot.

I am in CO as well and I know of 5 people at my school who applied and received nominations, including myself. As far as appointments go, one student received his in January, and another one received his today. I am still waiting to hear along with two other guys.

I'm also district 4. Congrats to those who got it, and best of luck to all of us. Hopefully we all get an appointment!

My DS on the appointment thread:

68. DS4Duty (DS), 3/16/16, Portal Update, CO-6, Senator Michael Bennet

He accepted the appointment but CU Boulder is still on. Good luck to all on your journey.

I would HIGHLY discourage CU Boulder! That place is messed up... professors smoking marijuana in class or showing up already high, I am not kidding, son #2 witnessed it. Also, do you remember Ward Churchill? Although it has a beautiful campus, it is a complete 180 from USAFA. If you are looking at ROTC, I would recommend School of Mines down the road a few miles in Golden, he can do ROTC at CU. That was son #1's backup plan if he did not make it into USAFA.

But School of Mines is a crosstown university, you'd still need to go to Boulder for the AFROTC activities, I think. My son had a NROTC spot at CU Boulder if USNA didn't work out. I was concerned about him going to school there, but he said the NROTC unit would provide him with a group that was not so far "out there." He interviewed with someone from the NROTC unit over Skype. He really liked the guy and respected everything he had to say. I don't know who he was, but the marine who interviewed him really made an impression on him. He was excited about attending there despite the reputation of the school.

Honestly, most colleges today seem pretty "messed up" to us middle-aged folk. But, I had teachers show up to class drunk at the University of Tennessee back in the day. At many schools, your kids may face having a roommate who does drugs, etc... even at private Christian colleges. CU Boulder was very generous in scholarship offers for an out-of-state student. I appreciated that about them.

School of Mines was his first for Engineering but after touring CU Engineering Faculty, he prefers the campus and the diversity there. Also, like SDMom2019 said, CU offers more generous incentives. It is a backup plan. DS is gamed for USAFA.

I'm from Colorado and received my appointment a few weeks ago. On the appointee FB page I saw at least 8 other people from CO (that was about two weeks ago) so I'm guessing they're just not on this forum much.
