Ok to send early ACT/SAT scores and send multiple times ?

My son is a 2018, current hs sophomore and will begin taking ACT/SAT this summer/fall. Should we send his first scores or wait until he knows scores and wants to send? Does it hurt to send scores multiple times ?
 
I would wait to send scores until at least until NASS application opens in January 2017. The reason I say this is because there isn't a file opened on your DS. NASS and PCQ are self-reported scores anyways, but my concern (maybe other BGOs can confirm or reject this) would be that they never get inputted into the file...as they were sent prior to it being opened. Once a file is opened, then they can match it to your DS.

Like usnabgo08 says, but after you have started an application to STEM or NASS or AIM (USCGA), then send them each time you DS takes the ACT Test.

Its too bad you need to wait; you get tortured when you have to go back and navigate ACT website. It is one of the worst websites I have ever seen. Talk about going on a 'Treasure Hunt' just to find a link on ACT Test Dates !

The ACT CEO should be forced to open an account and register for an ACT Test
 
Thanks for the feedback. Understand how it would be best until file is started. Yes, posted on Coast Guard Academy as well to get different perspectives. My son is interested in Coast Guard, Naval and Air Force Academies. He applied to Naval STEM las year (was not selected) and has applied again this year. So far he has only taken PSAT, but ACT and SAT soon. He also applied for an engineering camp at Air Force Academy. He has attended lacrosse camp at Air Force (3 years) and Navy (2 years) and plans to attend this year as well.
 
My DS sent all his scores from freshman year on because it's where he wanted to go and was free to send with ACT registration. Maybe they had them because he had applied to STEM camp? Anyway, by the time he did his application for NASS and it turned over into his candidate application they already had them uploaded onto his portal. Every single one. Somehow, somewhere, they were saved. Just our experience though.
 
For what it's worth, I sent mine to the academy every time I took it (first time being in May of Sophomore year) and when I opened a file for the class of 2020 they were there. It may have been from my transcript, but I am not sure. I just sent them along with the free score report...can't hurt!

I would slightly disagree, I would wait and only send your best scores. What if the first score is low and the second is a marked improvement? Why let them even see the low score? Yes there is something to be said for improvement but there's also something to be said with putting your best foot forward.
 
Not sure there is much value in taking ACT/SAT as a freshman/sophomore in h.s. The math section in particular makes use on concepts you learn all throughout h.s. Taking it before you even have those math classes probably won't do your score much good.

I agree with this. In hindsight DS should have waited. At the time, we were just trying to take advantage of the free score-sends.
 
Well, my parents are teachers, so they helped me prepare a lot. I actually got my best math score my sophomore year. Of course, if you don't think the scores were good enough, don't report them. It's all based on your own preference, but navy superscores, so I am not sure if a low score that has been improved upon will reflect badly on your application.
 
Considering the ACT and SAT math top out at Algebra II/Trig if you are an advanced math student you might do well to test early while those classes are still fresh.
