Hello, I had braces for about 2 years, but got them removed about 3 and 1/2 years ago. However, I still have the permanent retainer they always put in after braces. Does this count as current orthodontic equipment? Current orthodontic equipment is listed under the disqualifiers.

Use the search function using 'permanent retainer'

There are a number of threads and come cite the DoDMERB Reg

It appears permanent retainers are not disqualifying - but again do the search and read the actual regulation that applies

I have a bonded retainer and was not disqualified for it. They asked about the appliance & I assured them that it had not caused any issues (mine has been one for about a year and has not been an issue). She wrote a note down on the paper, but my status came back as qualified!

Did you mark yes in your medical history for this? My daughter is just starting it now. She has had her braces off for five years and still has the bonded retainer.

Yes, I did. I'm still afraid they're going to find something wrong with me on the medical exam that I didn't know about, haha.

It's horrible... My DS got a DQ for eczema that he doesn't even have now...small patch on his knee. So frustrating.
