I am currently a sophomore in high school. I want to attend USAFA and I know you need to be a US Citizen, currently I am not but I am going to become one. But first, my dad has to apply for citizenship through naturalization and I am not sure how long this takes. I can then get derived citizenship I want to know if my dad starts applying now, will I make it in time for apps for congressional nomination next year? Thankyou!

I'm not sure anyone here knows how long that process will take, but unless he's already started the process, that would seem like an extremely quick turn-around.

As prior poster indicated, this is probably not the best forum to find such information. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services website has some guides for which there are links on this webpage: https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-naturalization/path-us-citizenship

Additionally, google turns up a number of legal advice websites. Some of which indicate that the time frame depends on both your circumstances and where in the country you live. It might be possible, but is likely to be tight, so you should both research and seek expert advice ASAP. Good luck.

It took years for my girlfriend (which was years and years ago, before we met).

Things have changed since then, but I get the feeling it's a rather tedious, involved process (as it probably should be).

I really enjoyed looking at her documentation and she's proud to be an American (something I take for granted).

So, look into it and the timing and good luck. Depending on your age, you may also have time to apply in the future of this go around is too tight or not possible.

Good luck!
