4/c question

Too tired to dig through the handbook, so I thought who better to ask then the wonderful folks here at SAF....

Once swab summer is over, I think the kids can have a cell phone....? I was wondering what sort of limitations are imposed on them. Especially text messaging! It seems that is the way most young people communicate these days. Heck, even I have started using this feature and I am OLD. (Just ask my kids :wink:

)

the day swab summer ends you'll get your cellphone back, or at least we did. the only real restrictions on cell phone usage are where you can use them (4/c can't use them in the hallways, wardroom, other obvious areas, or outside in uniform). that being said, you will have no problem making calls/texts any time of day as long as you're not in class or training.

I am sure son will be glad to hear that he will have some contact with his old friends/family, even if it is limited! Thanks for the info!

....or in the new Chase Hall annex, where wireless service is hit-or-miss depending on which room you are in. :wink:

Swabs will also get their phones back for a few hours after Mystic, and the ones leaving for Eagle (A/B/C) get to take it with them for a week!

Don't let him report with a cell phone, mail it to him (fully charged) a few days before Mystic.

If he brings it to R-Day, it will be confiscated and stored for 4 weeks.

SOME Cadre will be nice and get the confiscated phones from the trunk room and charge them for their swabs to use at Mystic, but you can't count on it.

That is what we were planning on doing. I've been a good and faithful SAF reader, and remember this tidbit from last year!! I feel so much better about sending the son off with all of this great advice.....SWAB not Cadet, mail the cell phone, write but don't expect letters in return, etc, etc.
