Thank you for your interest in VMI as you approach you junior/senior year I hope and high encourage you to consider coming to visit our campus, meet current cadets faculty and alumni.

The website http://admissions.vmi.edu/visit/ will be available this summer (sometime in June/July) for sign up. The slots are limited in number and normally fill up about two months in advance.

If you are unable to make one of the dates below, you can arrange for an individual visit and tour. If your parents schedule does not permit, let me know and I will attempt to find a local alum you can speak with and try to make arrangements for you to come and visit.

Calendar meeting yesterday confirmed these dates for the 2016-17 Open House programs as follows:

23-24 September 2016
14-15 October 2016
4-5 November 2016
34- February 2017
3-4 March 2017
24-25 March 2017

This overnight program for high school seniors and juniors offers a taste of life at VMI. Prospective cadets sleep in barracks, eat in the mess hall, and talk with faculty, admission counselors, and cadets.

Parents and other guests must make arrangements for separate lodging. Space is limited. Students may bring no more than two family members or guests with them.

After registering, you will receive detailed information *about one month prior to your visit*.

If you have questions, contact 540-464-7211.

I would strongly urge anyone interested in VMI to attend one of these weekends- and if possible I would suggest attending one of the opportunities in Sept, Oct, November. They are all good, but in the fall- you will see the Rat line in all its "glory" while in Spring you will get a slightly different picture.
I don't know anyone who did not get a lot out of one of these overnight visits- (while I do know a few who really wished they had known up front what they were getting into). Unlike most of the other SMCs- VMI (and the Citadel) are really "1 trick ponies"- If after a couple of weeks you don't like the life of a Cadet- you don't have any options other than leaving. You can't transfer to the general student population and continue on at your current college- so it is important that you have a clear eyed view of the place and life you are joining. These overnight open house events are the best way I know of to see for yourself- and to talk with not only current cadets, but Faculty, Coaches, Admissions officers . So this is a strong suggestion that you take advantage of one of these weekends if you can.

When Bruno says, 'you will see the Rat line in all its "glory"', this is so true. I remember when DS#1 and I went to open house and he was leaving to head to the overnight portion and I was heading to my car, I could hear some rat getting told the what for all the way out into the grassy area. The yelling was coming through the open windows as there is no A/C in the barracks. I figured my son would surely get a good picture that evening of life as a rat. He still thought highly of his experience and the closeness of the cadets. It is one of a kind experience for sure.

My son, 2018, plays lacrosse and would like to participate in a Sept 11 , Sunday noon to 4pm, lavrosse prospect camp. Could anyone provide guidance on how wencould powsibly arrange a tour and perhaps overnight on Sept 10? We will be traveling from Texas . Thanks

I think the only overnight dates are listed above, but they may make exceptions. I would call admissions and maybe the coach.
