Anyone have any experience with USAFA's CE major or the Civil Engineer career field?

This career field appeals to me because:

-I like engineering and am interested in potentially creating new structures in different places around the world
-I can pretty much go anywhere with it
-I will get to lead people (compared to acquisitions fields like developmental engineers)
-It will give me good experience for a CE/Project Management role for when I eventually separate

Now I have read as much as I could find online, haven't had the chance to talk to anyone yet, but do these expectations sound appropriate?

I don't think any of the regular cadet posters here are CE majors, but I know that if you can handle the academics, it's a great major to be a part of. There are some cool summer opportunities (look up the FERL program), I know people that have been involved in the Concrete Canoe competition, and it's a relatively tight-knit group of cadets. I've dealt with a few of the CE faculty for various classes and have had really good experiences even though I'm not in the major.

Everyone I know who has gone into CE after graduation has liked the career field so far, and I know one grad who's in EOD school right now (only open to CE officers after here.)

Are you an appointee? If so, go talk to some faculty after BCT and try to talk to upperclass cadets in the major, they'll have great perspective on the workload, and the faculty will be able to talk to what it's like to be a CE officer.

Thank you for your advice @BlahuKahuna . Yes I am an appointee, and will talk to faculty/cadets about the major. While I have you, can you tell me more about major's night. I know the premise but when is it during the school year? Thanks

There's one each semester (mandatory until you declare a major.) I think the fall one is usually October-ish. No need to wait that long to start talking to faculty if you're really interested in CE, majors night isn't the best opportunity to have an in depth conversation with any one cadet or faculty member.
