So, in reading the paperwork, it looks like women entering NAPS do not have to cut their hair.

Deciding on whether or not to cut it anyway, for time's sake in the mornings? Also, does anyone know if we need to bring our own backpack for academics, or will we be supplied with one?

Any answers or comments would be greatly appreciated. :)

Backpacks are issued. As far as hair, my daughter (current NAPSter) had a hard time with it being short because she couldn't keep it out of her face during exercise. And while it's growing out, they still have to have it off the collar, which is difficult when it's over the collar but too short for a bun. If she can get her hair in a bun quickly, I'd advise against cutting. Just my opinion....

Thank you so much! I was thinking about that too; that awkward phase of hair being too short for a bun, yet it still goes over your collar. I would just need to practice putting my hair in a good enough bun to not get yelled at for it...

As someone who had to cut it for Plebe Summer... Don't. The long hair is actually easier to keep in standards, deal with PT and looks cleaner when kept up. Work on putting your hair in a tight bun. Lots of videos on You Tube and tips online.

Just curious, wouldn't it be easier to have it just long enough for a single french braid? (with a really short end that is above the collar. This is what I currently have as a non-cadet) Or would that be out of regulations even if it was symmetrical?

I don't think that would be within regulations for Navy. They're pretty strict on a tight bun or short hair above the collar, but I'd check more into that to make sure.

French braids can be worn but any ends should be tucked up and under. Nothing can protrude ponytail-like even if very short. Shoulder-length or a bit longer hair support a regular bun or sock bun. Put it up damp with a little product for a sleek and un-wispy look. The French braid may take too long in the AM. Easiest lengths are either really, really short pixie cut or Halle Berry style that is finger-styled or the longer shoulder-length. You also have to think about covers being worn and how that can work against a hairstyle. A cover can push the back length down over the lower collar edge. It's always a challenge for those wearing a short bob not in a bun, chasing after haircuts to stay in regs. As mentioned above, there are all kinds of videos on military women hairstyles.

Final tip: Bunhead Capezio bun hair pins. Match to hair color, longer for better control. Forget bobby pins or drug store hair pins. Dance supply stores or Amazon.

Thank you so much!! I will definitely look into those bun hair pins.
