Can anyone tell me what the first year workload, by class and semester is, for a new cadet at AFA? I know that they take Physics, Chem, English, Calculus, Elect Engineering...etc. But how are the classes broken down by semester? Thanks in advance for your input!!!!

It's different for everyone. Depends on your academic composite score and what classes you validate.

I was on the 4-5-1 plan so I only had 4 classes 1st semester at the academy with the following schedule:
Behavioral Science 110 (3 credit hours)
Computer Science 110 (3 credit hours)
French 131 (3 credit hours)
Math 141 (3 credit hours)
Study Skills 101 (2 credit hours)
Physical Education 112 (0.5 credit hours)
Total Credit hours: 14.5

Most students start out with a schedule more like this: (Assuming no validation credits)
Chem 100 (3 credit hours)
English 111 (3 credit hours)
Engineering 101 (3 credit hours)
French 131 (3 credit hours)
Math 141 (3 credit hours)
Behavioral Science 110 (3 credit hours)
Physical Education 112 (0.5 credit hours)
Total Credit hours: 18.5

The classes which you take can be moved between semesters, but you may only swap 100 level courses for other 100 level courses freshman year, unless you validate and have some wiggle room.

looking at pages 199 - 200 of the curriculum handbook (2015 - 2016), it appears there are physics, engineering, and math courses scattered throughout 2 - 3 years, since they are considered "core curricula". Not sure if this is the same for the incoming 2020 class. Only the current cadets or USAFA advisors can really answer this.

Thanks so much!! Is Physics and Elec Engineering 2 year? His major would be Political Science
Physics can be taken anywhere from 1st semester freshman year to 2nd semester sophomore year.
Electrical Engineering is a junior level course.
