Hi:
Im new in this topics and need some help, my daughter will apply when time comes to a SA as well as ROTC scholarships, I read both required to pass a medical & fitness test, my question is:
where do we have to have this done? is any medical facility for rotc applicants? or each have to do it with their own Physician?, is this valid?, also where did they have the fitness test?, with any PE Teacher? with somebody certified and aproved for Military personal?, thank you! I cant find this answer anywhere.

DoDMERB (The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board) is the Department of Defense Agency responsible for the determination of medical qualification of applicants for appointment to a United States Service Academy, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Programs of the United States Armed Forces, and other programs as assigned by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.

Blatant cut and paste from https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Default.aspx

When one of you SA applications is about 50% complete the dodmerb process will begin. When you are medically qualified it is valid for all SA and ROTC

Exams are by physicians contracted by dod.

there is a whole forum here on dodmerb. Check it out.

The Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) is different than medical. Same test for all SA. Different test at least for NROTC. They can be administered by PE teachers (common to all). Here is info on USNA CFA www.usna.edu/Admissions/Candidate-Fitness-Assessment.php

Not quite correct. I can't speak to NROTC Navy Option and your statement may be correct for that in terms of how it's administered. For Marine Options the test will be administered by a Marine Sergeant generally right after the Officer Interview. The test will be the Marine PFT.... the same test all Marines must periodically pass. You can find the events and scoring tables online. That's how much Marines care about the PFT. They aren't going to take some gym coaches word for it! :D

I was speaking specifically about Navy option. Sorry for the bad information. The navy option fitness assessment is different from the CFA, but similar.

I just went the application process for a national army ROTC scholarship this year. I did my PFT with my soccer coach at a local track and he just signed the PFT sheet saying he proctored it and that all information is correct. For the medical exams, I just went to local contracted physicians. DODMERB sends you the physicians to see when you win the scholarship and tells you to call them and make an appointment ASAP. There was no choice on my part on who I saw. Hope this helps

thank you for your answer, my daughter school has no PE teacher, but they have sports coaches, and she plays Soccer Varsity, so if her Coach can take the exam will be great, (she was worry were to find a PE teacher), so just to be sure, did you ask if your Coach is good to take this test?, thank you.

My daughter will apply for 1 Service Academy and 3 ROTC Scholarships (no Marines), so looks like even her Varsity school Coach can do this?

Yes. However, Last year USMA had a LOR that needed to be completed by a PE teacher. A coach could not complete that LOR. It was a new requirement for the class of 2020. Not sure what they are doing for 2021.

There must be a way to do it without a PE teacher. Many home schoolers apply and win appointments and scholarships every year. Have your daughter get in touch with the academy and Cadet Command.

no, can she contact the Academy?, or she should contact her MALO acording to our region, that is Farwest.

We are jumbling various questions about the CFA. For WP last year they implemented a new procedure about who can administer the CFA and a new recommendation letter was required. As mentioned above, you should check the official website for the appropriate service academy to see what THIS year's requirements are. If you interested in USNA, they also have their own website for admissions. ALO is a term associated with USAFA, for USNA they are called BGO's.
