Hey guys, I was wondering how common LOAs are and to whom they are most often given to (I read someone recruited athletes are the ones who typically receives LOAs). Thanks a lot and have a great day!

Please read through the stickies above and the very many other threads on this very topic.

The short answer: very few are given and do not be upset or disappointed if you do not receive one. No one will care on I-Day.

For you and all future aspirants, please, please, read through the stickies first! There is a wealth of info there and so many common questions are asked and answered there, as well as in the many threads here.

Good luck!

I am a 2020 appointee and I received an LOA. I was recruited for athletics and I'm sure that probably helped, but I also know a few other Service Academy appointees who were not recruited and I'm pretty sure I heard that some of them also received LOA's.

As fencersmother said, an appointment is an appointment whether you receive an LOA or not, so there's really no need to worry about receiving one. Its a very long application process and there are many other things that you should focus on.

These forums really are extremely helpful, and I almost always found answers to questions I had on here.

Best of luck to you both!
