USAF Thunderbird crashes

It is a crying shame these Teams get the oldest planes to fly.

The Maintenance crews are magicians.
 
Horrible news. So happy to hear the Thunderbird pilot is safe. Thoughts are with the Blue Angels and his family.
 
Oh my gosh....I am speechless. Two crashes on the same day? Ugh.

Sometimes you speak with wisdom and expertise in your posts. Not this time. I'm sure every one of my fellow naval aviators on here would agree. I have unfortunately witnessed a fatal F-14 accident at an airshow. There have also unfortunately been several fatal Blue Angle F-18 accidents. There have also been A-6 and F-4 airshow accidents. How many engines do all of these aircraft have?

I also went to Naval Aviation Safety School. They have plenty accident data that is publicly accessible if you are interested. You do like stats right? There are many reasons for airshow accidents, and yes sometimes engine failure in single engine a/c is the cause, but your post implies single engine is a peril. Statistics say otherwise. Majority of airshow accidents are not engine failure.

I'd rather the demonstration teams get the worst birds than line squadrons...

It's awful that it seems like the press got ahead of the military on ID'ing the pilot. I just hope the family got the official word before his name got out there. Some "anonymous official" needs a kick in the junk.

Hurricane, agree with hoping CACO system went into overdrive and beat any overly helpful unofficial folks who decided to jump in. I suspect the Blues rehearse an expedited notification drill given the public nature of their mission. I just saw the "unnamed official" report about 20 minutes ago. Local press couldn't resist putting it out there. I am sure every Blue Angel pilot family got a massive gut ache when they first heard the news, and awaited The Call.

With two major accidents today, let the safety standdowns and investigations begin.

So much strum and drang. The cause of the crash was, according to the Air Force, engine failure. Take your safety school stats home. Stats are meaningless to the individual...especially as a single-engine pilot.
 
Apparently the blue angel pilot sacrificed himself rather than punching out and letting the plane crash into homes. He died a hero. RIP sir, those are very big shoes for me to try to fill.

You often post about "indisputable empirical evidence" and suggest others google the info themselves. I give you a suggestion to go get some empirical evidence and you dismiss it as irrelevant. But when you quote stats on other topics you expect others to consider your stance indisputably accurate.

You started this thread with the perils of air shows with SE aircraft as if today's T-Bird crash was some sort of validation.

Take many things home yourself scout, include a bit of humility. By the way, I have plenty of single and multi engine jet time in my 20 + years in USN, including over 300 carrier landing and plenty of green ink in my logbook. You talk as if being a single engine pilot gives you some sort of status or credibility to your claim that single engine air show is perilous due to engine failure. Check the data scout. Take your own advice and research why planes crash at air shows.

He went so far as to disparage that very article he had been reading (and mistakenly posted), to just cover himself.

Perhaps you should dial your indignation back about 90% and stop assuming it was a remark about every crash at every air show, when it was a remark about what happens when 100% of your engines quit.

Congrats on your logbook. I'm sure it makes for good stories for the middle seat on commercial flights.
