Hey everyone, I'm creating this thread for anyone coming to Summer Seminar this summer that may have last minute questions, comments, or concerns. I am one of the 1/C (aka Seniors) who is on the leadership team for NASS and will try to help mitigate last minute panicking questions to save everyone (me included :) ) some stress.

Please DO NOT ask or discuss medical issues or personal information openly on the forum to maintain privacy. Plus I'm not at liberty to discuss 99% of medical issues (pretty much only food allergy concerns).

I will try to check this at least once a day over the course of the next three weeks. Hope this helps, and have a good one everybody!

When will the CFE be conducted and will attendees be provided a report on their mile times and number of pushups, etc. Thanks GoNavyPro!

Hi, so the Candidate Fitness Assessment test(CFA) will conducted Sunday afternoon for each session. It will be done company by company, starting with Alpha and ending with Echo. They will not be given a official report (as in a document that they can take with them), but they can ask their squad leaders what their stats were if they forget throughout the week. These are official scores that will be input into their candidate application though. Let me know if there's anything else!

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Will there be time to meet coaches if I am interested in varsity sports?

Thank you for this thread! Just curious, what is the most difficult activity that we do at NASS, in your opinion?

Monday night there will be a representative from NAAA to discuss how varsity sports work at the Naval Academy then immediately after candidates will be able to split up and go meet and talk with coaches of their interest from both varsity and club sports. Though due to current schedules some coaches may not be able to make it (ie. Rugby is still in season and playing this weekend) but will have a representative present in their place and should record names of interested candidates.

This will vary for everyone based on different people's strengths. For some, physical fitness isn't their strong suit and struggle at morning PEP/PT and during mock sea trials, while others will think it's a piece of cake. Others aren't good at memorizing things verbatim and then get the brute force of detailer's attention during the indoctrination session where they're expected to recall rates verbatim under stressful circumstances (ie. to simulate Plebe Year). Personally for me, I was a swimmer so running always was brutal when I came through both Summer Seminar and Plebe Summer. It'll be different for everyone. Regardless of what you may or may not struggle at, it's important to keep a positive attitude and have a team-before-self mentality. If you can do that, then your struggles won't matter/seem as bad.

Keep them coming y'all :)

If i don't do as well as i would have liked on the CFA can I retake it later by my own decision or is it like any normal CFA and I have to wait for them to tell me I failed in order to retake it?

Not that I'm planning on failing or anything... I just want to be prepared

Will the 2021 candidates have an opportunity to improve on the CFA scores later in the Fall ?

If I am applying to another service academy, can I have my CFA scores from NASS sent over?

I'll help with the CFA questions...since this is more of an admissions question vs. NASS-specific. You can always "re-take" a CFA through January 31st (even if you already passed it). However, the most recent CFA is the ONLY one that actually counts (that means if you do really well during the CFA at NASS and decide to re-take the CFA in November, but do worse...then the November/worse scores will be used). The CFA is provided at NASS to help candidates complete that aspect of their application. To re-take a CFA, you will need to contact your admissions counselor and have them re-set the CFA module on CIS.

CFA can be transferred between USAFA/USMA -- you need to contact your admission counselor to have the scores sent to the other SAs.

Everything usnabgo08 said is correct. I re-took my CFA twice as a candidate, even though I never failed any aspect and I believed it helped out. Also something to add, the list of people who can administer a CFA are a P.E. Teacher/Coach from your school, your BGO, or a Commissioned Officer. When you email your admission counselor, be prepared to have whoever email address ready to send to them so they can be sent the CFA score submission link.

Will it be possible to talk to more than one coach? I am interested in two sports (I know you can only play one varsity) with a first and second choice. Lightweight Crew and Rifles if that helps at all.

So the way this works is that you'll have 45 minutes to go to the sport(s) that you're interested in. Most coaches talk to the group as a whole (to all the people interested) for anywhere of 20-35 of those minutes, leaving a little bit of time for one on one face time with the coaches and questions. So for your case, you would most likely end up missing one of these group talks but should still have a chance to at least meet both coaches. Also most teams and coaches bring a clipboard for people to write down names and information of people interested in their sport too.

Edit: I apologize for bad grammar, punctuation, etc. I'm only an engineer working on a little bit of sleep :)

Thanks, and it's fine. My grammar is pretty bad as well because I am currently on mobile.

Is everything on the packing list required (i.e. the spandex)? Will a school ID work for a photo ID?

My DS is attending and for a Boy specifically, compression shorts UNDER their running shorts or sweats help with chafing etc. my son is doing Half Marathon training with me, and he felt a big difference when he forgot to wear them. Just a moms perspective

Everything on the packing list is not required, but is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. As CaliNavyMom mentioned, compression shorts in my opinion do help while working out, but if your son prefers something else then that's completely fine as well. No need to suddenly go shopping for something your son doesn't like. As for the ID, we prefer some sort of federal identification (ie. Drivers License or Passport), but we understand that not all candidates may have one of these readily available (as was apparent during Day 1 of check-in today). We will accept a school ID as a source of photo identification for purposes of Summer Seminar.

Day 1 of Session 1 kicked off today so I will only be able to check this at night. It's been an awesome day, and going to be a even better summer!

My DD has not communicated with her DM since she first arrived. I think my DW was expecting texts every 30 minutes with photos, LOL. Should we expect no communications the entire week or is my DD just having too much fun right now? Did they go dark?
