3 Fort Hood soldiers dead, 6 missing after truck rolls in swollen creek

So tragic. I tossed and turned last night thinking about this. Prayers for their loved ones and fellow soldiers.

Word from 100% unofficial sources at Hood is that one of the missing is indeed a USMA cadet.

This is just awful.
Thoughts to all the families of the soldiers involved.

Discussion with a colleague at Hood indicates that the bodies of 1 x SSG, 2 x SPC, 2 x PFC, 3 x PV2, and a CTLT Cadet have been recovered. Family notification is ongoing.

What a terrible accident.

What a terrible accident.
What are the chances that this mishap occurred on the same day as the thunderbird incident and the Blue Angels tragedy. It is a sad time for our armed forces right after Memorial day, may they all rest in peace.

It is important for everyone to understand that this is a highly hazardous profession in peacetime AND in conflict. This week had a lot of media coverage on three terrible incidents (two involved casualties) but I am certain there were many more across the globe. Injuries and death are an unfortunate but frequent occurrence in the military due to the nature of the profession. Keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

I don't know what the chances would be, though if I remember my GMAT skills the three are independent events so we would multiply their probabilities. I offer that only because it illustrates your point of how exceedingly unlikely this all was. I suppose some of that also depends on your view of the universe and who, if anything, controls our fates.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the families and the leaders of those units, though they're surely of little consolation.

Cadet death has been confirmed by USMA in an email to all parents. The name has still not been released, but the family has been notified.

I am just heartbroken for all of the families affected by this tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers have been, and continue to be with all of the nine soldiers lost and their grieving families. Along with USMC Captain Kuss and his young family.

As has been said better by those before me, most on this forum are very aware of military deaths, whether in wartime or peacetime, and due to the nature of this forum the loss of a cadet in training hits even harder. Own DS is doing well and thriving in AROTC. But with both LDX extended trainings, and as he prepares to leave for summer training, I am constantly anxious. And should he commission I expect to remain so until his last day of service. When he received his dog tags he thought them “cool” and all I could do was force a fake smile, while my stomach churned. My feelings as a parent are so so different from what I think I felt as an 18 year old off to USMC with sense of immortality. I do not remember if I even tried to understood what my parents must have been feeling, including my father a Korean Vet who never talked about it. As Grunt said above our children have embarked upon a very hazardous profession, and times like this make that clear. The pride in son's choice is tempered with our constant concern, and prayers. Scouts posting of the USMA notice made me want to cry.

To those who have lost a family member in service, Thank you. And to all of you who served, and those still serving, Thank you. And to all of the parents with children training and preparing to lead in whatever branch, Thank you.
