Hello all, I am almost already to head to the academy on in processing day. All that's left for me to do is buy some boots. Any suggestions?

Based on a few previous threads, at least for BCT, I would suggest only taking the Belleville ones that are recommended, otherwise, you may not be allowed to wear or keep them until after BCT.

DS worked out with his Belleville boots in colored red mulch at the park. If they have a red stain, are they toast?

They'll probably issue him new boots if they are stained like that. My DD said, "no, no ... tell him to bring them". Then she laughed evilly. ;-)

Don't do anything to make yourself stand out.
I have a pair of Nike SFB's in Sage Green. Would it be okay if I bring those, since it's highly recommended to bring your own boots and they fit all the requirements in the appointee instructions?

You can bring those, but they aren't your best option since those boots are notorious for having weak ankle support and coming apart in rough conditions

If I were you, I would have your parents send your Nike boots out after A-Day. That's what I did last year. Hodge is 100% correct about the boots not being super durable. Also, they aren't waterproof, which is something you will probably want in a pair of boots, especially for Basic.

If there is any concern about whether or not a boot would be acceptable, then the safe bet would be to wait until you're issued the boots and have your parents bring the Nike's at Parent Weekend. I suspect it would again be squadron dependent on whether or not Nike's are allowed during BCT (some squadrons did allow it last year.) If you end up bringing boots that aren't allowed, that would be just one more thing to have to carry on I-day ... in your left hand ... all ... day ... long.

For both 2018's and 2019's basic, you were ONLY allowed to wear the issued boots, of which you were issued two pairs of. I'm not sure if it's changed or not for 2020's basic.

For the school year, it depends on your squadron and the ROEs (Rules of Engagement) that they set for the doolies. My squadron was not allowed to wear any other boot but the basic boots for the whole year, until after recognition. However, there were squadrons where they could wear whatever boots they wanted right after A-Day.

EVERYTHING here depends on your squadron.

If you want to buy some boots, the most popular here are the Nike boots and the Rocky boots. I personally have the Rocky's and I can't say enough how much I love them!
The basic ones are nice, they're just heavy and clunky. I keep a pair in my closet for whenever it's wet outside, since they're waterproof.

Thank you for the info and the links. Much appreciated!

2019 was definitely allowed to wear non-issued boots. I know for 2020 that it is highly recommended that you bring a pair with you (I've spoken to some of your future cadre and they agree with that recommendation). I also believe the information given to the appointees lists specific types of boots (Belleville, Welco, etc.) that are basically what you will also be issued (since you will have a total of 2 pairs at the end of BCT). I would suggest getting those. I know some 2019ers who wore Nikes, but 1) they got basically ruined in Jack's Valley and 2) the cadre might be more strict about boots this year since they were highly recommended instead of optional.

Rog, wasn't sure about 2019's basic boots or nah.

I'd back up serendipity on bringing the boots that they recommend. My basic boots came out of Jack's fine, but that's because they're 10 lbs (it seemed like at times) of gore-tex and so you just washed them off and they were good to go. I wore my Rockys for a part of ESET because I accidentally fell in a creek with my basic boots on, and the Rockys aged a few years over the course of a day. I can't imagine wearing them during Jack's, especially some of the courses that y'all will be doing!

Belleville boots went to the shoe shop and the red mulch came out! YES!! They don't look new any more though. The big question from the shoe shop guy is, why suade? Yes, in mud or other stuff, this suade is rough to clean. Are these more "flight" boots? Curious.

If I was going for a pair of Belleville boots, which would be the best and how soon would I have to order them?
