AROTC SAT/ACT updates to file

For AROTC, is a candidate able to update improved SAT/ACT scores after he’s been boarded? My son’s SAT score came in today, and it wasn’t a great score (1140, 610CR 530M). He’ll retake it at the next available test (Oct), but the results won’t be back in time for the 1st Board. If it’s possible to update the file after being boarded, no problem. If he can’t, we’re contemplating the option of completing the application after the 1st Board, and competing on the 2d/3d Boards.

I did a search in the ROTC forum for this topic, but didn’t see any clear/definitive answer. If anyone knows the SAT/ACT update rules their guidance would be appreciated!

They can, and should...Army ROTC accepts screen shots...NEVER rely on the SAT/ACT code for ROTC to get your score to Cadet Command.

So here's the deal. Those scores would be fine if you were looking at Clarkson. If you are looking at Harvard, not so much. The thing about the scores is that they aren't the only thing on the application. They generate a handful of points by themselves. They also play a role in how the PMS scores you on their interview, and how the board scores your file. The thing to remember is that once you are boarded and once you are interviewed the interview and board scores aren't going to change. On the PMS interview 1100 gets the block checked, and it is only one of 5 criteria. Check two of those blocks and you get all the points you can. In my mind that should be the decision point on going first board vs waiting to retake and go second board.

Might want to look at this blog post about the interview. there is a link to the PMS form with the criteria on it.

Thanks Scott, very solid advice. His file is pretty solid with the exception of the SAT, so I suspect we'll pull this trigger for on competing at the first Board.

I feel like we should all copy and save this post since it is asked frequently about whether or not to apply to first board or how much the scores mean. My daughter had below that number and was given the same advice in the opposite direction, that since she could not get that blocked checked it was probably good to wait.

Quick question..... Does the AROTC superscore the test scores like the academies?

Also, do they want us to predict what activities we will be doing senior year or to leave that blank?

Thank you!

Army ROTC does superscore and they round up at .5 for ACT. They will list it on the portal as a superscore, but not the total, so my daughter emailed because it came out to 25.5 and they said in their records they had a 26.

Would recommend against checking blocks for things you haven't done. Use the white space (Additional Remarks) to explain about senior year activities.
Something along the lines of :
-have been selected to be captain of the volleyball team for this fall
-Should have my eagle scout project complete by August
-Expect to attend FFA national conference in January as a delegate

If you check the block and go to your interview and have to explain that you really don't have you eagle scout yet some folks may have a problem with that.

What about in terms of sports teams... I know I will be on varsity for all 4 sports that I play next year so should I go ahead and put those on the activities sheet?

Also, when uploading ACT/SAT scores someone said to screenshot a picture and send it instead of through the testing agencies... To avoid the cost of the latter option what am I supposed to screenshot a picture of.... Is the student score report sufficient?
