Hello, I was wondering how competitive a cadet would have to be in order to commission into the 82nd or 101st, and the airborne as a whole. I could find information on Infantry, but not the airborne its self.

Thanks to anyone who can answer.

It doesn't work that way...

Your assignment is based on AOC slot availability per HRC and the immediate need of a back fill for priority assignments.

Basically, just speak to your branch manager when you're a 2LT. I had orders to Ft Bragg upon commissioning. I didn't want to go to Bragg and requested Ft Campbell at OBC (BOLC). I had orders to the 506th IN REG (Band of Brothers) three days later...

Ok, so I know that you can list your top 3 branches that you want to commission into, and if you do good you can get one of them. Are you saying that if I commission Infantry, I can request airborne through my branch manager?

When you're an officer, any PCS location and any TDY enroute is coordinated through your branch manager.

I don't know if the duty location ADSO is still in effect. You can request Airborne, etc as a contracted Cadet.

Ok, thank you!

Everything MAJ M said is dead on. You can still ADSO for duty stations too.

Be aware, if you want to go to an Airborne unit, the 101st is not one. Just like he said, talk to your branch manager (there is one for each branch that deals solely with LTs) and let them know what you want. Don't expect them to send you to your #1 choice just because you call them, you're one of thousands they manage and you're not special. If you want it bad enough, ADSO for a post with an airborne unit (FT Bragg, NC, FT Richardson, AK, Vicenza, Italy).

If you branch IN, there's a real good chance you'll get airborne school after BOLC, if you are headed to an airborne unit you will go prior to going to your unit.
