Is CO-2 a competitive district?

Due to the proximity to AFA and overall large military presence CO is considered a very competitive state, especially for AFA.

I'd say all districts in Colorado have and will always be competitive. So the answer is yes

Since you can only apply for your MOC's NOM based on your (or your parents) legal residence, best to assume they are ALL competitive. Not likely your family is going to relocate to someplace 'less' competitive.

That's true. Do you think it would help at all to have a unique background? I lived in Saudi Arabia until 9/11 when my family had to move because of deadly attacks on US citizens. I then lived in Tunisia but was forced to move again after an Islamist-inspired attack on my American school/the American Embassy. Living in the US for the past 2 years has made me want to serve because of how great this nation really is.

I know back stories aren't exactly a part of the WCS but would my experiences be seen as an asset at all? (I'm also top 10% in my HS, 32 ACT, co-/captain of 2 sports, secretary of a club, NHS, involved in extracurriculars, speak 3 languages fluently, etc.)

It definitely could be an asset and could help you. It's unique especially when they ask why do you want to go to a service academy. I wouldn't get too worked up on being from a competitive district. More numbers doesn't always equal more quality. And my congressman manipulated the numbers as best he could to nominate as many individuals(lamborn CO-5)not all do this either though. I remember thinking about the same thing as far as competitivenes but was surprised to hear I got a nomination! I actually got one from my senator as well (cory gardner) but he took it back when he learned I already had a Nom because they don't double nominate apparently. (which also works in your favor because if you don't get one from your congressman, the kids that did won't get another from the senator leaving you in the mix). Not everyone wants to go to the same school as you as well and I definitely think my wanting to go to USMA helped me a tad since A LOT had AFA as their first choice. the AFA Nom rejections were given their other options like USNA USCGA and USMMA because those were less desired and for some reason harder to fill. You can't control who applies and why and the process but you can control your interview and your application. Just my thoughts

Congrats on your nomination/appointment! Do you know if you had a principal nomination? Also since you mentioned Senator Gardner, do you know if his deadline really is September 18th like it says on the site? Was that the case for you? I'm gonna take your advice about worrying about my own interview and application. Thank you for the help!

Yes the deadline was the 18th or something like that but they were really flexible and extended it to that date but it initially was earlier. Once you submit your app they will email you a month or so later and will send you a spreadsheet with dates and times where you can choose your interview (always always choose 10am or 1030, never the first, last, or like lunch time) you will be able to see others interview times as well and be able to get a count of how many if you really wanna know. I'd also make resumes to handout (bennet doesnt take them but gardner and Lamborn took mine, not sure about your rep). I wouldn't worry about rushing to finish your application for your congressman because They wait till the deadline to even look over apps and stuff so no early decision type stuff. (If you want to finish it early you can but if there is other leadership stuff you want to add on or there then wait a little bit but obviously not too late) I would suggest getting your teacher recs ASAP because it can be stressful during the school year trying to get them to do it and other kids will also be asking. Been there done that. If you have any questions just message me on here and I'd be happy to answer
