Right now I'm in my summer before my senior year and was wondering when should I do my AFA? What would also be some decent scores? I haven't timed my mile since fall of my sophomore year and then it was a 7:03 (really slow I know). My best number of push-ups in 2min is about low to mid 50's and sit-ups is about in the 70's.

You mean PFA not AFA, right? You need to work out consistently so you can max the PFA. Although the PFA is a small portion of the WCS, it is still worth points. Leaving anything off the table (not maxxing) can mean the difference between a type 1, 2, 7 or no scholarship at all.

Thanks! Also, for applying for the scholarship, applicants do take the AFA (Applicant Fitness Assessment).

I know all candidates take the test, it just happens to be that my pea brain remembered it being called the PFA. SA candidates take the CFA. Whatever the acronym is currently for the fitness portion, the big point is you will leave points on the table for your WCS if you don't max. AFROTC scholarships are national. They couldn't care if 100% of all of the scholarships come from 4 states, unlike USAFA where it is geo-centric first before they go to the national pool.

It becomes even more important to get every max point if you want to go non-tech since @80-85% of all scholarships are non-tech.

Plus, if you get a scholarship to contract you must pass the PFA. Many kids have problems if their form is incorrect.

The AFA for the Navy option scholarship does have passing numbers, but they are pretty low and will not be competitive. Here are some numbers to strive for (and hopefully exceed):

Males
Run: 6:20
Pushups: 59
Crunches: 76

Females
Run: 8:00
Pushups: 41
Crunches: 76

Hitting those marks will give you an AFA score of Excellent. In general, though, your AFA results don't have a very large impact on how your scholarship package is scored. Aim high, but ACT/SAT/high school grades/officer interview are the money makers.

Thanks! Do you have any suggestions on when I should have my coach administer the AFA? Also, my best ACT is a 26. I feel like that's kinda average or kinda low.

When? As soon as you're ready....but don't wait too long. I'd want to have my application submitted no later than September or so. You can have a month or two to prepare if needed, but again, the AFA score isn't weighted too heavily in the package scoring process.

Yes, the ACT score is low. The average is 31 for Navy option. Study and retake.

I planned on taking the ACT again this fall or winter. Would good grades/class rank help balance out a lower ACT? I was ranked 6 out of 287 this past school year and my GPA was 3.99.

Everyone who is competitive for this scholarship has good grades. No, it's unlikely to balance out a lower ACT score- the standardized test score is HEAVILY weighted in the scoring/selection process. I would aim to improve to at least a 28 or 29, as the average is 31.

NO! The CFA is different because the CFA includes things like the shuttle run and Pull Ups, plus the run length is different. He will have to do the AFA. However, the CFA can be accepted by every SA, just like the AFA can be used for every ROTC scholarship application. You just can't use the AFA for an SA or a CFA for ROTC.

Two completely different test requirements. They can't convert a mile run into a 1 1/2 mile run time or vise a verse.

Don't forget to practice for the test IN ORDER. So, if they test sit-ups, then push-ups, then mile... practice in that exact order.

And don't strive for mediocrity. Strive for you absolute best.

You need to run the AFA for NROTC. Recruiters should not be offering to use CFA data to create an AFA, as the tests are not the same. Honestly not sure why anyone would WANT to do that anyways, as the AFA is shorter and easier.

Take the SAT. Many people do much better one test than the other. Personally.. my ACT was 26, but my SAT was 2020 on the old SAT. Obviously ACT was not best fit for me. It may not be best for you either. Best of luck.

So if you did better on the SAT but not the ACT did you just not submit your ACT score?
