Vacant Congressional Districts

My congressional district, PA-2, currently has a vacant seat in the House of Representatives (the Congressman was convicted of 23 counts of corruption). Therefore, I cannot receive a nomination from my local Congressman. I understand I still have the opportunity to receive nominations from my 2 Senators and VP, but this situation puts me at a significant disadvantage. Has anybody experienced this frustrating predicament and can anybody offer advice on my next plan of action. Thank you very much.

Very Respectfully,

To the OP:
  • First I suggest you protect your anonymity by requesting that the Forum administrator change your user name. Don't end up as "that Plebe" with his whole life story available online for the detailers to eat you alive with!!!!
  • Secondly, you don't have to post this in all three SA forums. This should be posted one time in the "nominations" forum.
  • Thirdly, I would aggressively pursue your senatorial offices for a nom and call attention to your congressional district problem. It is an interesting story to tell.

Also it took between 4 to 8 months for special elections to occur and replace the following congressional reps: John Boehner, Aaron Schock, Alan Nunalee, and Michael Grimm. So there is hope that you can still get a district congressman placed in time to nominate you.

Here is the congressional vacancy link:

Dear gokings814:

Thank you for your response. I apologize for posting this thread to all three SA forums. I was in a panic and wanted feedback from as many people as possible. I will surely aggressively pursue Senatorial nominations and make sure they are notified of the situation. However, I do not think there will be a special election for the seat until November, which I expect will be too late. Also, I did not take into account how revealing my account username is when I created it... it is the one I use for all other internet profiles. I will change it ASAP. Great informative response sir.

Back in 2014, my DS's nomination interview did not occur until November and he received his actual nomination on December 10th, so it IS possible that the noms can occur on time if the replacement is sworn in late November.
However you are correct, it will be very close.

Remember the MOC's can nominate up to January 31st of the year of your academy entrance.

Yuan, have you Called the congress office to determine how they are handling Servuce Academy apps? Most MOC use a committee in choosing, and even if vacant, there could be a contingency plan in place if that happens.
Have you called the SA to ask if they are aware how the nominations work in these cases? I think you should go straight to the sources to get these answers.

Agree with Calinavymom....you can always call USNA and ask to talk with the Director of Nominations and Appointments and they can tell you how the process works in this particular situation.

Dear CaliNavyMom:

I have already contacted my admissions counselor at an academy and she told me that if there is no one in office, I would not be able to receive a nomination. I will contact the MOC nomination committee to find out more information.

Okay, all you can do is try right? Costs nothing...good luck to you in your process!

Update: The Office of PA-2 will be collecting applications, possibly reviewing them, and handing them to whoever comes into office after the November 8th Special Elections. That person WILL give out nominations before 31 January 2017. This also most likely applies to candidates in Hawaii District 1, who are in a similar situation.

That is awesome! Best of luck to you on getting a nom.
