When the heat goes out...

So, here's a fun story. All semester I've had a 3M window plastic insulation kit on our window to keep our room warm. Without any heat on, usually stays above 60 in winter. Well, before spring break when we had one warm week, the roomie decides to rip it off in an impulsive move one day while its warm....

Get back from spring break, been freezing temperatures all week and I've had to use both the room heater and a space heater, both at full blast, to keep it just above 60...the my roomie broke my space heater.....

SO, today its 26 outside, not only is my space heater broken, but the room heaters on the north side of vandy don't work. I won't up this morning and could not stay warm under two fleece blankets, a sheet, and a comforter. I looked at the thermostat. The lowest temperature it registers is 50. The needle is past that and pegged to the line on the left.

The temperature in my room is in the 30s right now. The inside of my refrigerator is warmer than my room...

Great things to look forward to my 2013ers! ;)

haha that's hilarious. Not fun for you though I bet...

Sir.

Just think about how much better you have it than Merchant Marine. They don't even have enough food for their cafeteria...

haha don't know if that is true but thats one of the jokes I hear all the time.

I thought that was Navy?!

Has my favorite Tiger complained of a cold room too? He has not to me! We used to keep our heat set to 55 all winter but our family room is usually in the high 40's on really cold days. BRRR! Wear a hat to bed Hornet.

haha maybe.
Its better with merchant marine because its budget is significantly less than USAFA USMA and USNA. Duno about CG. But MM gets the least amount of money. lulz.

Oh HELL NO!!!! I have approximately a foot and a half of snow outside. 3-4 foot drifts. About 20 degrees outside. Blizzard winds. Interstate highways are closed.

I keep my house in the winter on a programmable thermostat. When we're there; I have it set for 70. After 10pm, I set it for 64. And people talk about global warming. Even last weekend I could tell my son was actually looking forward to ending spring break and getting back to the academy. It's WARMER THERE. Hell, give me global warming!!!! I HATE being cold. If my son had taken one of his other college choices, the wife and I were MOVING. But with him only 2 hours away, we might as well stay where we're at.

Here's a webcam shot of Interstate I-80 outside of Cheyenne Wyoming at 5:30pm. (That's 17:30 for you hornet). (But it will update continuously, so if you don't see the blizzard, cause you looked later, trust me; it sucked.) Chatted online with my son. He said is was "Kinda-Cold", not much snow. At least that's one advantage he had at the academy. He's use to high altitude and real cold and wind.

Later... Mike.....

ditto for OK for the most part. Except for Thursday. It was nice and warm around 7, then dropped into the 40s and 50s I think (never checked the actual temp). Would've been fine without the constant 30-40 mph wind (with gusts).

Of course I hear we can look forward to the same and worse next year.:thumb:

electric blankets

So if it is that cold are you allowed to have electric blankets?

I know.. we still have snow here too. the only way to get through it is to embrace winter.....but the embrace has been way too long this year.

We are still snowmobiling.. but I will not skim on the lakes... so you have to stick to trails... Oh well.

I expect by second Orientation that it will be at least in the 60's right????

We can have electric blankets. Actually, my friend has one and said I could litterally rip it off him while he's sleeping if my room stays this cold tonight since his room is much warmer! lol.

Who knows what second orientation could be like. Last year the first one was sunny and warm, the second one had a blizzard. good luck!

fencersmom- S is lucky enough to not have a north room, so he is probably plenty toasty.

Keep in mind I grew up in the southern latitudes where 50 is cold! I'm not used to having a home be cold, where some prefer it after growing up that way. Give me 100 degree heat waves and I'll be find.

yep, the heaters are broken. sucks..

why?! lol it's miserable outside

Well my spring break will be an odd one. Florida for 9 days, one day at home, then CO for 4 days for oreintation. Warm, then freazing cold!

Actually, since my roomie is sleeping at a friend's house (its too cold he says...), I am piling all his blankets onto my bed. Should work out. I have a subzero sleeping bag, worse comes to worse.

A two week spring break? My school district has only a one day spring break. We used to have a mid-winter break, but that has been taken away since last year.

Yeah not to rub it in at all but I went to the beach yesterday, going again today, and probably tommorow.

The beaches of Lake Superior are starting to look nice. Only problem is you'll get a Minnesotan tan, a tan around the goosebumps!

lol, you think 70 is cold, CC? Right now, my house is at 62 and my room is probably 50 something, although I'll admit that 30 is a bit too cold for me, at least to sleep in. Wear your snow pants, Hornet! I'm going to first orientation, and I'm hoping it's warmer than here (we just got snow again today!), but I'll pack for the worst.
