Hi all,

I'm going into my AS200 year, but I'm struggling in Aerospace engineering and I have calculated that the max GPA I can get before field training packets get sent to HQ is 2.97. That's assuming I get straight A's come fall. I'm on a type 7 scholarship and I can financially afford to change majors to a non tech major and lose it, but I worry that even If I do so, and classes get easier, a 2.97 will look awful compared to other cadets who have been non-tech since day one. In the short run, I feel like it would be beneficial to stick with AE because they take that into account for EA's, but in the long run, they don't discriminate based on major for pilot selection. I've talked to my cadre about this and he said that he expected field selection rates to be high again for next summer and that I should stick with the major, but I'd like a second opinion or two.

Thanks in advance, everyone!

From what I've heard the rates are going to be really good again. Last year they took everyone who they possibly could and if that's still the case you'll get in. You are going to have an almost impossible time going from a tech major to nontech under scholarship. 99% of the time they would not let you do that. Personally I think the smart decision would be to stick it out and do well in your classes. That way you will most likely still get into SFT and keep your scholarship. By switching to nontech it will hurt your SFT chances and there is no saying if you will do a lot better in those classes.0 Stick it out and do well...if it is anywhere close to last year and your other stats are fine I can see techs with 2.7GPAs getting in again.

Yeah, my cadre said the Air Force was hurting for officers, I just wasn't sure if that was a personal opinion or a more widely held belief. Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it.

The process is cyclical...it has its ups and downs. Right now we are in an upward swing but just two years ago the acceptance was only somewhere around 60%. They are trying to aim for an average of 80% every year so it isn't so bulimic but with last year having a 98% rate idk how well that is working.
