This Week
When a door closes sometimes he opens a window! I received a letter on Tuesday offering me a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. I will be attending NMMI in the fall and looking forward to 2014.

Best of Luck to Everyone

Last Week
I also received the same thin white envelope yesterday. The wording about being fully qualified for admissions and eligible to fill a vacancy if they become available may be somewhat generic to these letters. I plan on contacting my ALO and Admissions Counselor next week to find out what I need to work on. I will not give up my dream this easy! I plan on strengthening my application and if I do not get a late selection this year there is always 2014. Every time I drive by the academy this summer I will be thinking about all of you.
Best of Luck to Everyone

Congratulations! This is an open window indeed! The benefits are many - well done!

Falcon Scholars!

Yeah, congrats to you Scooters!

My son also got the same notification! He chose Marion!

This makes me want to go home and check my mailbox! Since the thin white envelope I haven't gone to my house to check for anything.

I'm probably just getting my hopes up but who knows!

Just got some good mail! I am getting a Falcon Foundation Scholarship!!! Now the hard part...Which school?!!!
:shake:

congrats!

Way to go!

Check out the websites, ````and send in the form!

I guess a big reason why I didnt get a Falcon Foundation scholarship is because the DoD paperwork was incorrect. The sitting height they had was 20 something instead of 30 something (must have not been able to read the number)
luckily, I was persistent and found out, so my new sitting height was send
maybe I can pick up a scholarship?

Congratulations to ALL Falcon Foundation Scholars!

As you may have read, I am one of you; albeit, from the class of 1978-1979!

Should you desire, I'll be happy to give my "thoughts" on this.

BOTTOM LINE: do you think you'd be offered this is the Air Force Academy wasn't REALLY interested in you??? :thumb:

Congrats man..I'm happy for you..I felt bad when you posted that you got your thin white letter came.

Congratulations to all Falcon Foundation Scholars!!! It's a golden ticket you've got there!

A golden ticket?! Just out of curiosity, why are people who receive these ever denied admission to AFA the year after?

I received the Falcon Foundation scholarship too!

It says in bold that only the first 100 to return the paper work get the scholarship. I'm planning on sending it tomorrow, but how many people have these? Is there a chance I won't be in the first 100?

Congrats AFAplease. I hoped you would get the Falcon Scholarship! Way to go.
I'm sure you will make the right decision.

Thanks man, hope I have a few days to make up my mind before they are all given away!

This is probably just a way to get people to send back their acceptance of the scholarship offer ASAP, so they can give out more scholarships if people decline. But that's just speculation - they might actually reject those who didn't make the first 100! (which is a really small number if the scholarships are distributed nationwide)

They offer 250, give out 100. If you are still deciding, CALL THE OFFICE! They are more than happy to save one of the 100 slots for you if you are interested, and they ARE filling up fast. I know that my slot is being saved while I decide which one I will be attending!

As a "former" FF recipient...and an ALO...

Receipt of a FF scholarship does NOT guarantee you anything. Folks tend to think it does; in reality, it does NOT.

Granted, the large majority of folks that take them DO receive appointments, however...more than a few do NOT.

Why?

Their SAT/ACT scores do NOT come up to the standards required for admission that year. Their "behavior" at the prep school is "unacceptable" to the AFA. Yes folks, your conduct/behavior IS reported to USAFA.

You receive a failing grade in ANYTHING. Period, end of story. I had a young man at NMMI on a FF scholarship...he was doing GREAT...but...got a bit lazy, late on turning in a couple of english papers...instructor gave him an "F" at the "prog" (mid semester). USAFA revoked his recently offered appointment, even though the semester was NOT over! And when he pulled the "F" up...USAFA said: "So what, you had an F grade..." Oh yeah, they wanted their money back too!

So please do NOT "assume" that since you have this golden gift that you have a guaranteed "in!" Yes, you are VERY HIGH ON THE LIST for an appointment next year, but you'll also get a VERY CLOSE look by USAFA because money has been spent ON you.

Just my dime's worth.

That's exactly what I have heard flieger! Do you know if attending one of these "prep schools" would cause my GPA to go up at all for my application? And if the Academy doesn't accept you after you prep school, do you have to repay the scholarship value?-that seems ridiculous!

Hi!

Okay...good questions, so let's hit each one!

First, your GPA at prep school is a seperate item; not "combined with" or "added into" your HS GPA. It's considered seperately and is an "adder" to your package: POST HS education.

Second...if you have given a "full and fair effort" and are still NOT selected, I don't see the FF asking for anything back. Unless their paperwork/contract has changed, if you fulfill your part (attend school, do well, and apply and compete) then you will be see as fulfilling your "contract" and that's that. I had several classmates at NWPS that had this happen to them: they were not asked for anything back.

BUT...your focus is: go, do AWESOME, increase your "numbers" in ALL areas, and then watch the results!! :thumb:

I would assume since FF students are high priority some may receive LOAs? Is it possible that the LOAs will go out to FF students before 1st term grades are even submitted? It would sure be nice to be at college second semester knowing that I already had an appointment! I hated waiting from september-march this time!
