Hi all. Here's my lineup for senior year.

AP Gov/AP Econ
AP English 4
AP Physics C
AP Calculus BC
Student Council
Robotics Team(class)(Two years of computer science or two years of engineering courses required)
Varsity Basketball(takes two periods of the schedule)

My Lineup for junior year was:
AP U.S. History
AP Chemistry
AP English 3
AP Physics 1
Pre-Calculus Honors
Principles of Engineering and Design Honors
World Geography Honors

*Moved too late to play Basketball Junior year (Played JV Freshman and Sophomore year at old school)

I was wondering if the classes I have taken/will take are competitive enough for applying to the Naval Academy. Any input or insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have challenging STEM courses, so that is a plus. Do well in them. No one here can tell you your odds, but it looks like you are heading down the right street. Make sure the rest of your application is just as competitive...SAT/ACT scores, other ECAs/leadership positions, sports/CFA, etc.

My daughter is a Plebe at the Academy this year, and is not a recurred athlete, took only 2 AP classes overall in High School. Your classes are very impressive. Keep up the great work.

I apologize if this is too forward. Just another curious candidate here. What kind of extra curricular activities did your Plebe involve herself in during high school?

She was the HS girls soccer team captain for Junior and senior Year. Played on the team all 4 years. She was the VP for a club junior year focused on helping Children with Autism and President senior year. GPA was 3.8 and had a 33 on the ACT.

Hope that helps.

It's refreshing to read that DS doesn't need 20 ECA's and 10,000 comm service hours to make it. I know, exaggerating ; )
But sometimes I wonder if some of these kids do that many ECA's and Hours because they ENJOY it or just to look good on paper?
DS is an Introvert, but loves Theater activities and volunteering, but doesn't have a ton of ECA's either.

Personally , my opinion is that every state and nomination process varies in difficulty. Meaning if you live on the ocean states, the application pool is higher making it tougher to get in. If you live in just say Wyoming it's easier. Really competing with the pool of kids within the state you live in and how many openings your member of congress or senator has open to see what your real chances are.

in terms of the ECAs, I think the depth of participation is more valuable then the shear amount. When the BGO interviewed my daughter she could see the passion for working with Autistic kids and doing it for 4 years which showed commitment to serving and helping others. She tied this to why she wants to go to a service academy on the essays and interviews. I think they are looking for this kind of depth over doing tons of various ECAs just to fill out a long sheet of paper.

I agree...sons drive to serve comes from his heart being touched at Pearl Harbor during a vacation. If not Academy, he will enter as enlisted and try that way.
BGO reassured him that he does have competitive app and scores, which made me feel better. We want the world for them, they just have to do the work.
