2009 AIM Question

National Honor Society

One more box to check. My daughter came home from school and informed us that " all the smart kids got called down to the office" and were all informed that they got into The National Honor Society.

We are waiting on AIM too; we sent our application about a month ago. We are homeschoolers and my son takes his first SAT in May. He took the ACT in January, but he really didn't do well at all. But we are hoping to do better on the SAT and re-take the ACT as well. Sooo... the waiting game begins. First with AIM, then with EA decision, and last with regular admission. Just reading some of these post from people like Shellz and others is just gut-wrenching. We literally talk about the Academy 30 times a day and just know that' s where we want to be.:thumb: Lets keep eachother updated, okay. -officer:shake:

1 down

We just received a invitation to attend NASS. :thumb:I figured I'd just update everyone. I know I check in at least once a day.

My daughter took the ACT 4 times, and the SAT 3 times...
Poor Child... she hated me and those tests.. and regretfully her math numbers seemed to go lower each time, but her other schores went up.. She dreaded the test more each time... She has a great GPA, but she definately went thru test anxiety each time......

she attended AIM last summer and loved it... Now she is a CGA Scholar and will be going to prep school... She is pretty pumped up about it....

My daughter took the ACTs twice and the SATs three times prior to Prep School. The Coast Guard had her take it two more times while at Marion (and she didn't really improve much those two times), so I know where you are coming from. When her last SAT scores went down, her Senior year in high school, we just gave up & figured that was where she was going to be. I know she hated it when we told her that she should try another time. Her best scores were the ACT ones anyway. Maybe you don't want to tell your daughter right away that she will have to take them yet again:eek:

LOL... She knows... BUT I think she read they have SAT prep classes... ?!

Yes - the first semester they have SAT Prep Classes, but they take the SAT before they are finished with the classes (at least the first time)(my daughter's Reading score went up 40 from her best in high school and she didn't improve on her math at all). She took the test in October and December.

ohh gosh I dont remember... honestly.... but it well below the 600 mark..
but her gpa is 3.72...

Her best SAT scores ended up being Math 610, Reading 650. Her best ACT scores (which I think were better when I looked at conversions to SAT) were Composite 29, English 29, Math 28, Reading 30, Science 28, combined English/Writing 27. They offered the ACTs at MMI, but the Coast Guard didn't have the cadets take those. She plans to major in Environmental Chemistry (she loves Chemistry and is acing it at MMI)

...Do you mean Marine and Environmental Science? We don't offer environmental chemistry as a major (mech-e, civ-e, ee, ops research, MES, gov't, management, nav arch are our 8 majors). or maybe i'm missing something because i just fried my brain studying for my own chem exam for the past 5 hours or so.

There is a chemistry track within MES, but Environmental Chem is not a major.

Yes - that's what I mean:smile: she knows USCGA doesn't have a straight up Chemistry major (at her other college choices, she was applying for Chemistry or Chemical engineering majors), but thinks the chemistry track within the MES major will fit her well. And who knows - she could change her mind again.... it happens. (I, her food chemist mom was a bio major in college:rolleyes:)

There are 3 tracks offered under Marine & Environmental Sciences: Bio-Environmental, Chem-Environmental, and Physical.

while we're on the topic i suppose it's worth noting that they are adding a physics track as well.
