Caution: I am creating this post NOT to start a frenzy about LOAs and NOT to have people panic about not getting one. I am offering this in the spirit of sharing up-to-date information to the rest of the forum.

My DS told me this morning that an acquaintance of his at our church, who is a senior and had gone to SLE, just received a USMA LOA.

Interesting facts:

-The LOA recipient is not a recruited athlete.

-The LOA recipient is male.

-The LOA recipient hasn’t even finished his application or essays. He has only submitted his SAT scores (don't know the scores) and math teacher recommendation.

-He passed CFA at SLE.

-He hasn’t even started his DoDMERB.

FYSA (For your situational awareness).

A LOA is like finding the golden ticket in you chocolate bar. It is very unpredictable and just a fraction of applicants get one. LOAs are conditional. I would still encourage everyone to work hard on your goals and when you do well increasing your WCS is that much easier. Now thats just the easy part. I was recently had a conversation about a Plebe who was struggling in his academics this year. And felt despair, with the his eye on a goal to just make to Thanksgiving and then to Christmas break. Everything was so easy during his high school years and was the center of attention. Now he is faced with the fact there are Cadets more skilled in the art of surviving the day to day grind. He had the idea, I can just get in and go into auto pilot. But WP academics will raise the bar at every turn.

Work hard on your academics, its the foundation for success. And time management, master this skill!

My guess is that this candidate might a high academic achiever (high academic achievers are targeted with LOAs)

Speculation is fun:
- it is more likely than not likely that his candidate has decent athletic participation/ability, based on him passing CFA at SLE.
- it is more liklely than not likely that this candidate has good to decent leadership based on his SLE acceptance.

A missing interesting fact is this candidate's high school transcript/class ranking.

I received an LOA last week. I don't want to post any info publicly but if you pm me I would be more than happy to answer any questions.

Congrats. FYI, no one can PM you until you post a requisite number of posts. I think it’s five.
